Loan Administration at Valon

The Loan Administration team powers all of the operations required to keep Valon running smoothly. From onboarding loans to handling insurance and processing payments, the Loan Administration team ensures that homeowners are continuing to get a first-class experience with Valon, all from behind the scenes.

About the Role

The 1098 Tax Reporting Specialist owns Valon’s annual borrower mortgage interest reporting process end-to-end. This role ensures all 1098 forms are prepared, validated, and filed in compliance with IRS, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Valon Servicing standards. The specialist maintains data accuracy across the servicing system, custodial accounts, and tax vendor files, driving operational precision and audit readiness for all year-end reporting activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead annual 1098 form generation, validation, and submission for all loans serviced under Valon.

  • Review and correct discrepancies in tax reporting fields (interest paid, property address, borrower name/TIN, etc.) within the servicing system.

  • Manage production and distribution of borrower copies through Valon’s print vendor.

  • Coordinate with Engineering and Data teams to validate year-end extracts and correct file-level issues.

  • Track, reconcile, and document all submissions to ensure full compliance with IRS Publication 1220.

  • Maintain a complete audit trail of corrections, overrides, and borrower adjustments.

  • Develop and maintain SOPs, checklists, and control matrices for 1098 reporting activities.

  • Partner with QA to build control checks into the servicing system for recurring issues.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Escrow, Cash, and Investor Reporting teams to resolve discrepancies affecting year-end data

  • Identify and recommend process automation or reporting enhancements to improve accuracy and efficiency.

  • Other duties as assigned

Ideal Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of mortgage servicing experience within 1098 tax reporting or system administration functions.

  • Prior experience managing 1098 or 1099 reporting cycles in a mortgage servicing platform (MSP, Sagent, etc.).

  • Strong working knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and USDA investor requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong data analysis and Excel proficiency; SQL or data validation skills preferred.

  • Proven ability to manage high-volume reporting cycles with accuracy and tight deadlines.

  • Excellent written communication, audit documentation, and issue-tracking skills.

  • Ownership mindset with commitment to Valon’s “Operational Self-Sufficiency” principles.

  • Minimum education requirement: High school diploma or GED equivalent required
