About The Role
The VP, Property Underwriting will be responsible for underwriting and producing business, ensuring the quality of risk analysis and decision-making, and adding accretive wholesale broker teams to our limited distribution model. This role requires an MGA Property Underwriting background to be considered and you will function as a high level individual contributor writing property business.
What You'll Do
- Analyze complex property exposures through research and collaboration with appointed wholesale brokers.
- Produce property solutions with risk appropriate terms and pricing, adhering to Oculus’ underwriting guidelines and granted underwriting authority.
- Develop and enhance brokerage relationships through demonstration of underwriting excellence and service.
- Utilize Oculus’ underwriting tools and systems to adhere with all operational and pricing guidelines.
- Review and underwrite complex insurance policies, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate financial statements, loss history, and other relevant data to assess the financial stability and viability of clients.
- Utilize underwriting guidelines, actuarial data, and market trends to determine appropriate pricing and rating structures for property insurance policies.
- Prepare and issue accurate policy documentation, including policy wordings, endorsements, and other related documents, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance.
- Provide risk management recommendations and advice to clients, including suggestions for loss prevention, safety measures, and risk mitigation strategies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field, or 10+ years of related insurance experience, or equivalent combination of both education and experience.
- Strong understanding of ISO policy forms
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in underwriting Excess & Surplus Commercial Property, with shared/layered programs
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of underwriting ground up, primary, and excess commercial property
- History of underwriting office, retail, habitational, hotel, distribution, warehouse, manufacturing classes of business
- Experience underwriting with an MGA
You'd be an ideal fit if:
- You have been an Underwriter for at least 10 years in Excess & Surplus Commercial Property.
- You have experience underwriting office, retail, habitational, hotel, distribution, warehouse, and/or manufacturing classes of business.
- You have wholesale broker relationships to add to our distribution model.
- You have been an E&S commercial property underwriter at an MGU.
This is a remote position. Planned, in-office activities may be required on occasion (typically 2-4x per year).
You must live in the United States and be authorized to work in the United States without requirement of employment sponsorship/visa.
