In the complex ecosystem of global energy, price integrity is the foundation of market trust. As VP, Global Risk & In-Business Controls (1LoD), you will be responsible for the design, execution, and continuous improvement of the control environment across our price reporting & editorial operations.You will ensure that every price assessment—from traditional refined fuels and NGLs to the high-growth sectors of Biofuels, Chemicals, and Carbon—is produced with the highest level of accuracy, transparency, and regulatory compliance. This role is critical in protecting Dow Jones Energy’s "License to Operate" and ensuring adherence to IOSCO Principles and other relevant regulations. You will report to the Head of Strategy & Operations.
Control Framework Design & Implementation
Asset-Specific Controls: Develop and maintain tailored control protocols that account for the differing liquidity and market structures of Refined Products (high liquidity), Chemicals (less-liquid, often contract-based), and Carbon/Biofuels (evolving regulatory frameworks)
Expert Judgment Oversight: Implement rigorous checks and balances for the application of "expert judgment," ensuring editors provide clear, documented rationales for assessments in illiquid markets
Workflow Automation: Partner with Product and Tech teams to embed automated "hard" and "soft" controls directly into the price-discovery and editorial tools
First Line of Defense (1LoD) Operations
In-Business Quality Assurance: Conduct regular "spot checks" of price assessments to ensure alignment with published methodologies
Marker & Data Integrity: Oversee the verification of "market markers" and trade data submitted by third parties to prevent the inclusion of outliers or non-representative data
Training & Culture: Lead global training programs to ensure the editorial team understands "Conduct Risk" and the operational requirements of a PRA within an research and insights organization
Incident Management & Governance
Price Challenge Leadership: Manage the formal investigation of price challenges or market complaints, ensuring impartial root-cause analysis and swift remediation
KRI Management: Develop and report on Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), such as methodology deviations, data submission errors, or late publications
Audit Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for the Second Line (Compliance) and Third Line (Audit) during annual IOSCO assurance reviews
Sector-Specific Focus Areas
Chemicals: Monitor the transition from contract-based to spot-based pricing models, if relevant
Biofuels/Carbon: Ensure integrity by verifying the sustainability credentials and regulatory certifications linked to price assessments
15+ years’ experience in Risk Management, Middle Office, or Editorial Leadership within a PRA, Energy Major, or Commodity Trading firm.
Expert knowledge of IOSCO Principles for Oil PRAs
Ability to work with large datasets and surveillance tools including SQL, Tableau, or proprietary trade-capture systems
Proven ability to manage diverse, global teams and influence senior stakeholders including Chief Editors and Heads of Research
