As Going’s Vice President of Engineering, you will play a significant role in rapidly developing new product experiences that unlock growth and help more people travel and experience the world in the coming years. As the VP Engineering, you will guide and develop our engineering function, focusing on sound technical strategy, deep partnership with Product, and a commitment to quickly and continuously delivering value to our customers. Your role will be high-impact and involve close collaboration across departments. As a technical leader and manager, your mission will be to recruit, coach, and motivate a high-performing engineering team (~25 engineers) to foster an innovative and growth-driven culture. The engineering team you lead will be responsible for quickly delivering high-quality and reliable software to our two million+ members. This role reports directly to the CEO and sits on the Leadership Team.
Become deeply familiar with our code base, tooling, team, existing product, product vision, processes, and technical obstacles.
Ensure scalability of our software and data while being efficient and thoughtful with costs.
Motivate and work alongside the Engineering team to deliver scalable architecture and timely, efficient product deployments.
Direct a top-notch engineering team by fostering a culture of growth, development, and bias for action.
Strategically partner with the Leadership Team to refine and further develop our technical vision and initiatives, further elevating the engineering culture and expertise at Going.
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure prioritization transparency and enhance project implementation and efficiency.
Establish and refine software development processes that continuously deliver value to our customers.
Partner with Product and Engineering to strategically reduce technical debt in a way that unlocks customer and business value.
Architect and build towards a strategic and technical roadmap that leverages massive airfare data sets, user preferences, data science models, and scalable alerting mechanisms to deliver a scalable and performant mobile-first experience to millions of users.
Implement and uphold data security and privacy standards that reflect our commitment to protecting data and maintaining members’ trust.
Play a key role in developing a first-rate product and engineering culture that is known for innovation, speed, and excellence and is reflected in the product experience we ship to customers.
Work in partnership with Product and Marketing to launch excellent consumer experiences that are reliable, scalable, and performant to drive business growth.
Required:
Your background includes extensive experience developing highly scalable systems for major consumer-centric software organizations.
You have experience in startup environments and leading an engineering org of 25-50 engineers.
You have expertise and experience in leveraging massive data sets and data science models to build useful consumer-facing products.
You have a track record of developing high-quality and performant mobile applications on iOS and Android, and are familiar with operating in mobile-first companies.
You have experience in developing and executing a strategic and technical roadmap that proactively unlocks future product developments.
You can balance tradeoffs between speed and quality and guide strategically sound technical decisions that balance short-term results with long-term vision.
You have a proven record of building and leading efficient high-performance engineering teams in a fast-paced setting, with expertise in thoughtfully scaling teams.
You’ve operated in product-led organizations before and can develop highly scalable systems and shipping software quickly and continuously through a deep partnership with Product.
You have knowledge and experience implementing data security and privacy standards that protect customer and business information.
You’ve worked on products that cater to millions of users and can handle the challenges of scale that come with large scale consumer applications.
You possess the ability to inspire, lead, and manage teams in a remote-first work environment.
You’re recognized as a great coach that can guide and challenge engineers to improve both in their technical capabilities and their career growth.
You can productively participate in collaborative strategic business conversations that go beyond technical discussions.
You are a very strong, clear, and concise communication, both synchronous and asynchronous, and can communicate technical concepts to non-technical coworkers.
You’re legally authorized to work in the United States and able to work US-hours (PST, MST, CST, or EST).
Preferred:
Knowledge about airfare, GDSs, metasearch, and the travel industry is a plus.
You have a strong desire and willingness to partner with Product, Marketing, and Operations to drive business results.
You believe in the product-led approach that quickly and iteratively provides value to customers.
You want to win and have fun in the process.

The salary for this role is $250,000 + equity
