This senior-level role sits at the center of global casualty product strategy, with a strong focus on shaping and governing Workers’ Compensation underwriting standards across a complex, multi-line insurance portfolio. The position plays a critical role in defining underwriting guidelines, pricing strategy, and risk appetite while ensuring consistency, profitability, and regulatory compliance. Working closely with Legal, Claims, Actuarial, and Risk Control teams, the role supports data-driven decision-making to enhance portfolio performance and market competitiveness. The environment is highly collaborative and technically sophisticated, requiring deep expertise in casualty underwriting and product management. This is a high-impact position that influences enterprise-wide underwriting strategy and long-term business outcomes. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical capability, leadership presence, and the ability to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments.


Accountabilities:

Lead the development, governance, and execution of Workers’ Compensation underwriting strategy across a complex global casualty portfolio.

  • Evaluate and approve underwriting language and pricing for highly complex risks using advanced diagnostic and financial analysis.
  • Develop, refine, and implement underwriting guidelines, policies, and product strategies in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Analyze portfolio performance, including quality, profitability, and risk trends, to support sustainable business growth.
  • Partner with Legal, Claims, Actuarial, and Risk Control teams to assess emerging trends and regulatory impacts.
  • Drive cross-functional product initiatives, managing timelines, priorities, and stakeholder alignment to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Contribute to underwriting authority frameworks, audit processes, and reinsurance considerations.
  • Represent the organization in industry discussions and stay current on market, state, and regulatory developments.
  • Mentor and guide underwriting teams, supporting knowledge sharing and capability development.

Requirements:
Extensive experience in casualty underwriting, with deep specialization in Workers’ Compensation and exposure to both guaranteed cost and loss-sensitive programs.

  • Strong technical expertise in underwriting principles, pricing models, exposure evaluation, and risk analysis.
  • Proven ability to manage highly complex underwriting portfolios and make decisions within broad authority levels.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills across technical and executive audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex data and market trends.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring and developing underwriting professionals.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and related business tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; professional insurance designations strongly preferred.
  • Typically 10+ years of progressive underwriting experience.
