Underwriting Assistant

In this role, you will support commercial underwriting operations for business auto and broader commercial package lines, including general liability, property, and cargo. You will play a key part in evaluating submissions, ensuring accurate risk assessment, and maintaining a profitable and well-managed book of business. Working closely with senior underwriters, you will help analyze eligibility, review driver and vehicle information, and support post-bind servicing activities. This position requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and practical insurance knowledge. You will contribute to data-driven underwriting decisions that directly impact portfolio performance and loss ratios. Accountabilities:

You will support underwriting operations by reviewing commercial insurance submissions, evaluating risk eligibility, and ensuring accurate policy servicing across multiple commercial lines. You will work closely with senior underwriters to maintain underwriting quality, profitability, and compliance standards.

Review incoming commercial submissions to determine eligibility and underwriting acceptability
Analyze motor vehicle records and driver information to assess risk exposure
Use underwriting tools, historical data, and reports to support sound risk decisions
Re-rate or revise policy information as needed to ensure accuracy and compliance
Document underwriting decisions clearly and maintain complete file records
Support account servicing and post-bind policy maintenance activities
Collaborate with senior underwriters to help achieve profitability and target loss ratios
Assist in maintaining consistent underwriting standards across commercial auto and package business

Requirements

You bring foundational experience in commercial insurance underwriting or account servicing, with a strong understanding of commercial auto and related package lines. You are detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a structured underwriting environment.

2+ years of experience in commercial insurance, underwriting support, or account administration
Experience with commercial auto and package policies (general liability, property, cargo preferred)
Understanding of underwriting principles and risk evaluation practices
Property & Casualty insurance license preferred or willingness to obtain
Associate degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
Strong attention to detail and ability to work with accuracy under deadlines
Good analytical and decision-support skills
Strong communication and documentation abilities
Insurance-related certifications are a plus
