Job description


The Tax Senior will play an important role in providing tax-compliance services to our SMB clients. This position focuses on supporting tax planning, compliance, and reporting functions. The Tax Senior will assist in the preparation of tax returns, offer tax advice, and ensure clients remain in compliance with tax regulations. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of tax laws, the ability to manage tax compliance processes, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service to our clients.

Responsibilities


Compliance and Reporting:

  • Help prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns for clients in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure tax compliance, including maintaining appropriate documentation and records.
  • Prepare and review miscellaneous tax filings, such as city, property, and other miscellaneous filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws.

Tax Planning and Strategy Support:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities for SMB clients.
  • Stay updated on changes to tax laws and assess their impact on client operations.

Client Consultation Support:

  • Provide support in offering tax advice to clients on various matters, including tax-saving opportunities and risk management.
  • Assist in conducting tax reviews to identify potential areas for improvement.

Audit Support:

  • Assist in tax audits by preparing documentation and liaising with tax authorities as needed.
  • Help resolve any tax-related issues or discrepancies that arise during audits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or EA certification preferred but not required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in tax at a public accounting firm or a similar role, specifically working with small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) across various industries.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience with tax planning, compliance, and audit support.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex tax concepts.
  • Proficiency in tax and project management software, such as Canopy and GoSystem, is a plus.

The base pay range target for the role seniority described in this job description is $88,000 - $134,000 in most remote locations. Final offer amounts depend on multiple factors such as candidate experience and expertise, geographic location, total compensation, and market data. In addition to cash pay, full-time regular positions are eligible for equity, 401(k), health benefits, and other benefits; some of these benefits may be available for part-time or temporary positions.
