This role is a senior technical position focused on designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise virtualization environments that support critical academic and administrative systems. You will act as a subject matter expert for virtual server and desktop infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability across complex systems. The position involves both hands-on administration and strategic input into infrastructure planning, with responsibility for troubleshooting advanced issues and optimizing system performance. You will collaborate closely with IT teams and stakeholders to ensure reliable service delivery and alignment with institutional needs. This is a highly autonomous role requiring strong technical judgment and problem-solving skills in a mission-critical environment. It also includes participation in on-call rotations and support for 24/7 system availability.
Accountabilities:- Design, configure, and maintain virtualization environments, including virtual servers and desktop infrastructure, ensuring stability, scalability, and performance.
- Install, configure, and support physical and virtual servers, including operating systems, applications, and associated tools.
- Monitor system performance and resource utilization, identifying and resolving issues to ensure high availability of critical services.
- Provide Tier 3 escalation support, troubleshooting complex virtualization and infrastructure issues not resolved by lower support tiers.
- Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures, technical documentation, and system configurations.
- Support planning and implementation of system upgrades, changes, and enhancements following established change management processes.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours support to ensure continuous system operations.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical education or certifications are a plus.
- At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience managing virtualization environments in enterprise settings.
- Strong hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, VMware Horizon, and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Knowledge of SAN storage systems, server hardware, and enterprise networking concepts related to virtualization.
- Familiarity with system monitoring, logging tools, and performance tuning practices.
- Experience with operating systems administration and disaster recovery / business continuity principles.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues independently.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to document and explain technical solutions clearly.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Flexibility to participate in on-call rotations and work outside standard hours when required.
