This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a SVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in the United States.
This is a senior executive legal leadership role responsible for defining and scaling a global legal and compliance function in a fast-growing, distributed organization. You will serve as the primary legal advisor to the CEO and Board, shaping legal strategy across product, commercial, corporate, and regulatory domains. The role combines high-level governance oversight with hands-on operational leadership, ensuring the business can scale responsibly in complex international markets. You will lead a large, globally distributed legal team and play a key role in enabling growth through pragmatic, business-oriented legal guidance. This is a highly strategic position requiring strong judgment, commercial acumen, and the ability to build scalable systems that reduce friction while maintaining compliance. You will also help define how legal supports innovation in a remote-first, global operating model.
Accountabilities:- Own and evolve the global legal strategy, aligning legal priorities with business growth, product expansion, and risk management objectives
- Serve as principal legal advisor to the CEO, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors, including corporate governance and secretarial responsibilities
- Lead, structure, and scale a global legal organization of 35+ professionals across multiple jurisdictions and time zones
- Oversee global employment, labor law, and compliance matters in a complex international workforce environment
- Partner with cross-functional leaders in Product, Engineering, Finance, Revenue, and Operations to support scalable and compliant growth
- Drive commercial legal strategy for enterprise contracts, partnerships, and negotiation frameworks
- Build scalable legal infrastructure, including playbooks, templates, self-service frameworks, and operational workflows
- Manage external counsel, legal vendors, and budgets while optimizing legal operations through technology and AI
- Oversee privacy, data protection, AI governance, ESG, and regulatory compliance initiatives in collaboration with internal stakeholders
- Support corporate development activities, including M&A, financing, entity management, and regulatory engagement
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar admission in at least one jurisdiction
- 10+ years of legal experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role (GC, Deputy GC, or equivalent)
- Proven experience leading and scaling distributed, global legal teams in a fast-paced environment
- Strong expertise in corporate governance, commercial law, and international employment or regulatory frameworks
- Deep understanding of global workforce models, ideally including EOR, HR tech, SaaS, or similar industries
- Demonstrated ability to advise executive leadership and Boards with clarity, confidence, and business focus
- Strong commercial judgment with the ability to balance growth, risk, and operational efficiency
- Experience building legal processes, systems, and scalable operating models in high-growth organizations
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts for diverse stakeholders
- Comfort working in a remote-first, asynchronous, and globally distributed environment
