This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Substation Engineering Manager in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to lead complex substation engineering programs that directly support the reliability, safety, and modernization of critical power infrastructure. You will oversee multidisciplinary engineering teams responsible for designing, analyzing, and delivering high-voltage substation projects from concept through execution. Acting as both a technical authority and people leader, you will guide design decisions, ensure compliance with industry standards, and drive engineering excellence across multiple project phases. The position combines strategic program oversight with hands-on technical review, including system studies, equipment evaluation, and field assessments. You will collaborate closely with project managers, construction teams, and external stakeholders in a highly regulated and impact-driven environment. This is a leadership role suited for an experienced substation engineer who thrives at the intersection of technical depth, project execution, and team development.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the full lifecycle of substation engineering programs while ensuring technical excellence, safety, and compliance across all deliverables.

  • Oversee the design, development, and execution of substation engineering projects in alignment with industry codes, safety standards, and client requirements
  • Manage end-to-end substation programs, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, resource planning, and risk management
  • Lead cross-functional coordination between engineering, construction, and project management teams to ensure seamless project delivery
  • Review and approve technical specifications, engineering drawings, and documentation for substation systems and equipment
  • Direct and validate engineering studies such as load flow, short-circuit analysis, and feasibility assessments to ensure system performance and reliability
  • Guide equipment selection and evaluation, including transformers, breakers, relays, and control systems
  • Oversee field evaluations and site visits to assess existing substation conditions and recommend upgrades or corrective actions
  • Review contractor submissions to ensure compliance with design intent and engineering standards
  • Mentor and lead engineering teams, providing technical direction, coaching, and professional development support
  • Drive continuous improvement by incorporating emerging substation technologies and industry best practices into engineering workflows

Requirements

The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in substation engineering combined with strong leadership and program management capabilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 12+ years of experience in electric substation engineering
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Strong knowledge of power systems, electrical circuits, and substation design fundamentals
  • Familiarity with industry standards including IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and IEC applicable to substation design and operation
  • Experience with substation engineering disciplines such as relay, physical, or civil engineering
  • Proficiency with engineering and design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, PSCAD, or similar platforms
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform complex technical studies and engineering calculations
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical concepts clearly to stakeholders
  • Experience mentoring engineers and fostering a high-performance, collaborative team environment
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously

Benefits
