Accountabilities:The Staff Software Engineer will take ownership of the technical direction and implementation of repository infrastructure, building highly reliable backend systems and helping scale secure artifact delivery capabilities.
- Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of core repository systems, including package registries, APIs, and production services.
- Build and operate highly available backend services that securely serve software artifacts at scale.
- Drive technical decisions related to repository architecture, service boundaries, scalability, and operational best practices.
- Develop and improve systems focused on reliability, observability, performance, and production readiness.
- Design solutions that support future expansion across multiple artifact types, including libraries, containers, and operating system packages.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to create a cohesive and scalable repository experience.
- Own meaningful technical initiatives from design through delivery while identifying opportunities to improve platform capabilities.
- Mentor engineers, provide thoughtful code reviews, and raise engineering standards across the organization.
- Help transform ambiguous technical challenges into clear solutions through strong problem-solving and communication.
- Contribute to building a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate is a senior-level software engineer with deep backend and infrastructure experience, strong technical judgment, and a passion for building reliable systems used by developers at scale.
- 8+ years of experience building and operating production backend or infrastructure systems.
- Proven experience demonstrating staff-level technical ownership and leadership.
- Strong experience with Go, or extensive backend engineering experience with the ability to quickly become productive in Go.
- Experience building customer-facing infrastructure such as package registries, artifact repositories, developer platforms, APIs, or other high-scale services.
- Strong understanding of production operations, including reliability, observability, performance optimization, and infrastructure trade-offs.
- Experience working across application and infrastructure layers, including cloud environments and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
- Strong systems thinking with the ability to proactively identify technical challenges and improve platforms before issues impact customers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote environment.
- Ability to influence technical direction, align teams, and drive progress in an evolving organization.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with package registries, artifact platforms, Docker registries, GitLab package services, Artifactory, Nexus, or similar systems.
- Knowledge of software supply chain security concepts, including provenance, SBOMs, and trusted artifact distribution.
- Open source development experience, particularly in developer tooling, package ecosystems, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience scaling multi-artifact repository platforms or developer infrastructure products.
