Staff Software Engineer, Data Platform

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will play a pivotal role in building the foundational systems that power how data and AI assets are accessed, tracked, and managed across the organization. You will design and implement scalable, reliable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines that enable data scientists and AI practitioners to work efficiently. Your work will directly impact how teams interact with data, ensuring robust governance, metadata management, and seamless integration with diverse data sources. Collaborating closely with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders, you will set technical standards, drive architectural decisions, and mentor others. This role offers the chance to solve complex engineering challenges, contribute to open-source projects, and deliver solutions that accelerate innovation and operational excellence at scale.

• Accountabilities
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems for data access, metadata management, and AI asset governance.
• Build and evolve APIs (REST, gRPC, GraphQL) that enable internal and external integrations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, plan work, and deliver high-quality solutions on time.
• Contribute to open-source technologies underlying data and metadata systems.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor fellow engineers, and raise technical standards across the platform.
• Ensure systems are resilient, maintainable, and optimized for performance, reliability, and security.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance on distributed systems, cloud-native development, and service-oriented architectures.

• Requirements
• 10+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly with distributed systems, data-intensive applications, or event-driven architectures (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, Flink).
• Expertise in one or more backend languages such as Scala, Go, Java, or Python, with a record of production-grade service delivery.
• Strong API design skills and experience building REST, gRPC, or GraphQL interfaces.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native development, including Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud deployment/operations.
• Solid understanding of system design and architecture, capable of designing scalable, maintainable solutions for complex problems.
• Familiarity with microservices or service-oriented architectures.
• Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to operate independently and navigate ambiguity.
