This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Backend in United States.

As a Staff Software Engineer, Backend, you will be responsible for designing and building scalable backend systems that support complex integrations, high-performance APIs, and distributed architectures. You will work across cross-functional teams, collaborating with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver robust software solutions that provide tangible value to end users. In addition to contributing high-quality code, you will mentor and guide team members, helping to elevate overall engineering standards and best practices. You will evaluate emerging technologies, solve complex technical challenges, and ensure platform stability while supporting rapid feature delivery. This role requires balancing hands-on engineering with strategic architectural thinking in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You will also have opportunities to engage directly with partners and customers, serving as a technical authority on backend integrations and system design.

Accountabilities:
• Design and implement scalable API infrastructure, including RESTful and GraphQL endpoints, to support internal and external integrations.
• Build automated API lifecycle management tools, including versioning, deprecation, and migration capabilities.
• Develop backend systems that support event-driven architectures, real-time data pipelines, and distributed platforms.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, data scientists, and DevOps teams to ensure seamless integration of services and AI/ML capabilities.
• Implement robust API security patterns, monitoring dashboards, and error-handling mechanisms.
• Turn architectural concepts into actionable technical specifications and mentor team members on best practices.
• Engage with product managers, security teams, and external partners to align system design with business goals and integration requirements.

Requirements

 • 10+ years of experience in software development, with strong backend expertise.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Proficiency in Java/Kotlin and extensive experience with Spring Boot/Spring frameworks.
• Hands-on experience designing and building RESTful APIs, GraphQL endpoints, and event-driven systems.
• Skilled with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, EKS) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform).
• Experience with cloud-based deployments (AWS), microservices, distributed systems, and database design (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis).
• Strong understanding of API security patterns including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, API keys, and rate limiting.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead cross-functional collaboration.

Preferred Skills:
• Experience in fast-moving software startups or product organizations.
• Knowledge of frontend technologies such as React and Three.js.
• Familiarity with aerospace or satellite operations technology is a plus.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and GitOps practices.
• Active or previously held TS/SCI clearance is a bonus.
