This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Avionics Engineer- Technical Volume Lead based in the United States.
The Staff Avionics Engineer - Technical Volume Lead will play a critical role in developing technical proposal content for advanced airborne military systems.
This position combines deep avionics engineering expertise with proposal leadership, technical storytelling, and cross-functional collaboration.
You will develop technical volumes and proposal strategies covering Mission Processing, Flight Operations, and Communications systems.
The role requires the ability to clearly communicate complex engineering concepts across design, integration, testing, installation, and operational environments.
You will work closely with internal teams, strategic suppliers, subcontractors, and program partners to ensure technical proposals are complete, compelling, and compliant.
The position offers significant visibility and the opportunity to influence program execution strategy during the capture and proposal lifecycle.
This is a full-time onsite opportunity in Melbourne, Florida, with approximately 10% travel and a 9/80 schedule that provides every other Friday off.
Accountabilities:- Lead the development and preparation of technical volumes for proposal and capture efforts involving advanced airborne military applications.
- Develop technical narratives and proposal strategies covering Mission Processing, Flight Operations, and Communications system design and testing.
- Create technical documentation describing system design, integration, test, installation, and operation.
- Develop storyboards and supporting materials that communicate technical solutions and proposal strategies effectively.
- Coordinate technical inputs from engineering teams, subcontractors, suppliers, strategic partners, and other contributors.
- Manage subcontractor and contributor inputs to ensure technical volumes are accurate, complete, compliant, and delivered according to proposal requirements.
- Collaborate across organizational sectors and functional teams to review supplier and subcontractor proposals.
- Review technical documentation produced by suppliers and support supplier technical interchange meetings and design reviews.
- Support the planning and execution of proposed programs by connecting technical approaches with program objectives and execution strategies.
- Apply knowledge of system development, acquisition, acceptance, qualification, integration, and testing to evaluate technical approaches and supplier contributions.
- Communicate complex technical information clearly to engineering, program, capture, and leadership stakeholders.
- Work effectively within a close, collaborative team environment while balancing multiple technical and proposal priorities.
- Travel periodically, approximately 10% of the time, to support program and business requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 12 years of related professional or military engineering experience; or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of related experience; or a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors and other technical contributors to develop compliant technical volumes.
- Strong understanding of avionics and airborne military systems, particularly Mission Processing, Flight Operations, and Communications.
- Ability to describe and communicate system design, integration, testing, installation, and operational concepts.
- Experience collaborating with strategic partners and suppliers across development, acquisition, acceptance, qualification, system integration, and test activities.
- Proven proposal development and capture management experience, including collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop compelling government and defense proposals.
- Experience reviewing supplier technical documentation and participating in technical interchange meetings and design reviews.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear, persuasive technical content.
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across organizational sectors and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet demanding deadlines, and maintain high-quality technical work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance, with a background investigation within the past six years or enrollment in Continuous Evaluation, as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret clearance.
- U.S. citizenship is required for positions requiring government security clearance.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
- Ability to work onsite in Melbourne, Florida; this position does not offer a hybrid or remote work arrangement.
