- Must thrive on engagement with our origination team. Underwriters must be comfortable and are encouraged to pickup the phone to discuss questions/challenges on files to ensure a thorough loan decision is issued.
Seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter.
- DE or VA automatic underwriter designations desired
- NonQM & Jumbo experience is a plus.
- Comfortable with technology
Candidate must possess the following basic skills:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in residential mortgage underwriting, with a strong preference for candidates familiar with Encompass software. Experience in Non-QM and Jumbo loan underwriting is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate mortgage loan applications to ensure compliance with company policies, as well as federal and state regulations.
- Analyze applicant financial status, credit reports, and property evaluations to determine feasibility of granting loans.
- Assess loan risk and make recommendations based on thorough analysis of borrower profiles.
- Collaborate effectively with loan officers, processors, and other stakeholders to expedite the underwriting process.
- Provide clear and concise explanations for loan decisions and conditions to all parties involved.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to maintain high-quality underwriting standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in residential mortgage underwriting.
- Proficiency in Encompass software is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of VA & FHA loan underwriting requirements.
- Excellent critical thinking skills with the ability to solve complex problems.
- Positive attitude and ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Must be able to work in a collaborative environment as part of a team.
- Ability to work and effectively communicate with processors and loan officers
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
