What will the Sr SDET do?

We’re looking for a Senior SDET who’s passionate about quality engineering and deeply experienced in automated and manual software testing—particularly for APIs and UIs. In this role, you’ll support multiple product teams across the company, partnering with developers, product managers, and analysts to ensure we deliver high-quality, reliable software that delights our customers.

You’ll lead the effort to define, implement, and scale testing strategies across our platforms. This includes building robust test automation frameworks, mentoring other engineers, and helping teams close testing gaps with strong test design and analytical skills.

  • Design and execute comprehensive test plans and strategies for frontend and backend systems
  • Lead the development of automated tests using Playwright / Cypress for UI testing and Postman (or similar) for API testing
  • Perform manual testing for edge cases or when automation is not feasible
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define test scenarios, acceptance criteria, and close gaps in test coverage
  • Support and advocate for quality across multiple agile teams, driving end-to-end, regression, and exploratory testing
  • Contribute to and maintain scalable test automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines
  • Monitor test results, triage failures, and provide clear feedback to development teams
  • Assist with production defect analysis and root cause investigation

What we are looking for:

  • 5+ years of experience in software testing, with a strong focus on automation
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Playwright and/or Cypress for UI test automation
    • Postman, Swagger, or similar tools for API testing
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, or C# for writing tests and debugging
  • Deep understanding of functional, integration, regression, and E2E testing
  • Strong analytical and communication skills—able to break down requirements into testable components
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and help shift testing left in the SDLC
  • Experience working in an agile environment with modern CI/CD pipelines

What will make you stand out:

  • Experience working at a startup or in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Familiarity with the insurance industry or other regulated sectors
  • Experience contributing to shared internal testing tools, libraries, or frameworks

Our interview process:

Our hiring process generally consists of 4 phases. The goal is to provide an opportunity for us to learn more about our candidates while allowing them to get to know us as well!

  • Phase 1: Qualified candidates will first meet with a member of our People Operations team for a phone interview.  This discussion is a high-level conversation to understand more about your background and interests and for us to share more about Coterie and the position.
  • Phase 2: Selected candidates will be invited to participate in our PDP survey and meet with our Hiring Manager for a 2nd interview via Teams video. This interview is designed to be more detail oriented and allows you to learn more about the role and expected to be 30 minutes in length.
  • Phase 3: Top candidates will be invited to participate in an experiential exercise interview. This will include a project provided in advance along with a 1-hour interview conducted with our hiring manager.
  • Phase 4: Final candidates will receive an invite to our final interview series. This series will include 1:1 interviews with additional team members. The final series is roughly 1-2 hours in total.
