This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Sr. Ruby on Rails Engineer in the United States.
This role is ideal for an experienced backend engineer who thrives on building scalable, high-quality systems in a modern, service-oriented environment. You will take ownership of meaningful features, contributing directly to the evolution of a large-scale platform used by a wide network of businesses. Working remotely within a collaborative engineering team, you’ll help design, build, and maintain robust APIs and backend services that power critical product experiences. You’ll engage closely with product and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable, performant solutions at scale. Accountabilities- Design and implement new product features aligned with business and product requirements, contributing to end-to-end backend development.
- Build, evolve, and maintain backend APIs, ensuring scalability, reliability, and strong system design practices.
- Collaborate across engineering teams to deliver platform-wide improvements, bug fixes, and technical enhancements.
- Write clean, maintainable code and develop comprehensive automated tests to ensure long-term system quality.
- Extend and refine business logic and APIs, including maintaining and improving API documentation where needed.
- Partner with infrastructure teams to support highly available and well-instrumented backend services at scale.
- Assist in production support and issue resolution for critical systems running in customer environments.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of professional experience working with Ruby on Rails or equivalent backend systems.
- Strong experience designing, building, and maintaining backend APIs and service-based architectures.
- Solid understanding of relational and/or non-relational databases.
- Experience working with both service-oriented systems and well-structured Rails monoliths.
- Strong commitment to writing clean, testable code with effective automated testing practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- Nice to have: experience with Node.js, React, NestJS, and/or GraphQL.
- Nice to have: exposure to retail, fuel, or convenience store industry systems.
- Experience working effectively in distributed or remote engineering teams.
