This role offers the opportunity to lead the design and implementation of advanced digital manufacturing solutions across multiple sites. You will define reference architectures, oversee lifecycle management of automation and operational technologies, and ensure solutions comply with regulatory and industry standards. The position requires balancing strategic thinking, technical expertise, and operational execution to optimize manufacturing processes. You will collaborate with global teams, provide guidance to operations and automation staff, and manage vendor relationships to deliver scalable, compliant, and high-performing systems. This is a highly visible role that combines technical leadership, process optimization, and cross-functional influence in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
Accountabilities:- Develop and maintain reference architectures for digital manufacturing capabilities, including automation and operational technologies.
- Gather and document business requirements, mapping them to capabilities, value streams, and operating models to ensure solution fit.
- Lead technical implementation of digital manufacturing solutions, such as Recipe Driven Operations, across small-scale sites.
- Facilitate architecture decisions considering cost, risk, compliance, and sustainability, and participate in design review boards.
- Identify, document, and manage architectural risks, technical debt, and deviations, proposing mitigation strategies and remediation plans.
- Partner with global colleagues to implement processes, procedures, and work standards while providing guidance and training to automation and operations teams.
- Manage relationships with external vendors to ensure successful project execution.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Systems Engineering, or other relevant field.
- 6+ years of experience in regulated industries (e.g., biopharmaceutical, medical device, or industrial manufacturing).
- 5+ years of experience in IT, digital, automation, or engineering roles supporting manufacturing operations.
- Proven expertise in designing and implementing solutions aligned with ISA-88, ISA-95, and ISA-18.2 standards.
- Experience supporting large transformation programs or platform implementations.
- Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to balance compliance, risk, cost, and sustainability considerations.
- Excellent communication skills, able to adapt style for different audiences and influence decisions.
- Ability to mentor and guide team members and collaborate in global, cross-functional environments.
- Willingness to travel internationally and domestically as required.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in a technical field, experience with Fill Finish, Utilities, Pens/Devices, Automation/IT, and regulatory compliance within biopharmaceutical production.
