About Dakota

At Dakota, we're building the next-generation global banking platform. Our mission is to empower businesses to operate globally by combining the best of crypto and traditional finance. Launched in 2024, Dakota already serves hundreds of customers and processes billions in annualized transaction volume.

From day one, Dakota has been a fully remote company. Our lean but experienced team is distributed across North America and Europe, united by a deep sense of ownership, a relentless focus on our customers, and a commitment to expanding economic freedom worldwide.

Please note: Dakota is a remote-only, equal-opportunity employer. At this time, we are able to hire within the U.S., United Kingdom, Spain and Portugal.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Software Engineer, Compliance to lead the development of integrations and tooling that power Dakota’s compliance and onboarding systems. You’ll be embedded with our backend team and work in Golang, but your primary stakeholders will include our compliance, risk, and onboarding teams.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the intersection of engineering and financial operations, and who wants to help scale the technical infrastructure that supports secure and seamless user onboarding and monitoring.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain integrations with third-party compliance platforms including ID verification and transaction monitoring software (e.g. Persona, Unit 23)

  • Extend our internal onboarding and transaction monitoring infrastructure

  • Own technical implementation of KYC/KYB workflows, alerting systems, and rule engines

  • Work cross-functionally with compliance, risk, engineering, and product teams to translate evolving regulatory requirements (e.g. VASP guidance, travel rule) into scalable, automated systems.

  • Support audits and regulatory reviews by ensuring that data artifacts, logs, and evidence are complete, reliable, and retrievable.

  • Develop dashboards and tools for audits, reporting obligations, and real-time risk monitoring.

  • Write clean, maintainable Golang code in our backend systems

Tech Stack

  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as our primary cloud infrastructure provider

  • Kubernetes for orchestrating our containerized microservices

  • Golang for most of our backend services and infrastructure tools

  • TypeScript for our front-end applications, deployed via Vercel

  • PostgreSQL & TimescaleDB for data management and financial transaction history

  • Buildkite for CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation

  • GitHub for version control and collaboration

  • Sentry for error tracking and Incident.io for incident management

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in backend or full-stack engineering

  • Strong proficiency in Golang

  • Experience working with third-party SaaS APIs (REST/GraphQL, auth, webhooks, error handling, etc.)

  • Excellent communication skills — you can partner effectively with non-technical stakeholders

  • Familiarity with secure data flows, audit logging, and operational tooling

  • Located in the US, UK, Spain or Portugal

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience integrating compliance tooling such as Persona, Unit21, TRM Labs, or similar

  • Proficient with LLMs and effective prompting techniques for major models, especially Claude

  • Familiarity with onboarding flows, transaction monitoring, and fraud prevention

  • Prior experience working in fintech or regulated environments

What We Offer

  • A mission-driven company expanding economic freedom globally

  • High-caliber team from Coinbase, Square, Airbnb, Anchorage, Messari, and more

  • Competitive salary and equity in a high-growth fintech

  • Fully remote working environment

  • Coworking space monthly stipend

  • Home office equipment stipend

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance

  • Regular team events and off-sites
