Software Director (Remote - US)

We are seeking a Software Director to lead global software projects and teams, combining technical expertise with strong leadership skills. In this role, you will drive the development of high-performing teams, standardize processes across projects, and ensure software design, verification, and validation meet regulatory standards. You will mentor engineers, oversee complex projects, and contribute hands-on to software development when needed. This position offers the opportunity to work across geographies, optimize resource allocation, and influence the adoption of best practices in software development. You will play a key role in shaping project outcomes while fostering collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence in a dynamic environment.

Accountabilities

• Lead global software development teams to deliver high-quality, compliant software across multiple projects and locations.
• Mentor software engineers on architecture, design, procedures, and documentation.
• Establish and standardize software development processes, tools, and best practices across teams.
• Proactively identify, communicate, and mitigate project risks.
• Enable efficient resource allocation and promote reuse of modules across projects.
• Support project delivery by understanding project needs and assisting engineers to meet commitments.
• Participate in hands-on software development as necessary to guide project execution.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 15+ years of relevant experience, preferably in medical technology or other regulated industries.
• Proven track record leading teams through complex problem solving and managing software development processes.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Experience in embedded software development (C/C++), object-oriented languages (Java, C#), and cloud-based applications.
• Familiarity with Agile or equivalent methodologies and sprint-based planning.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to travel globally (~15% of the time).
• Experience with regulatory standards such as 21 CFR 820 and IEC 62034, emphasizing software design, verification, and validation.
