Accountabilities:

Assess and classify complex life insurance risks in alignment with underwriting guidelines, mortality objectives, and company standards.
Analyze medical, financial, and non-medical information to make informed underwriting decisions within established approval limits.
Manage the full underwriting process for high-value applications while ensuring timely and customer-focused service delivery.
Collaborate with field teams, home office partners, and reinsurance providers to support retention and optimize underwriting outcomes.
Review referrals from other underwriters and provide guidance or co-signatures when required.
Contribute to underwriting projects, workflow enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Support the development and training of junior underwriting professionals by sharing technical expertise and industry knowledge.
Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements, underwriting trends, insurance products, and market developments.

Requirements:

6–8+ years of life insurance underwriting experience, including complex case management.
Strong expertise in medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting principles and mortality risk assessment.
College degree required; equivalent underwriting experience may be considered.
FLMI, ALU, ACS certifications, or active progress toward obtaining these designations.
Thorough understanding of reinsurance agreements, insurance contract law, and state regulations.
Strong analytical, decision-making, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities with a customer-focused mindset.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment while managing deadlines and multiple priorities.
Proficiency with underwriting systems, digital tools, and PC-based work environments.
