About The Role
The Underwriter is responsible for developing and maintaining a profitable book of business within loss ratio and premium volume targets. As an Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in assessing and evaluating risk, underwriting insurance policies, and providing expert guidance to clients and colleagues. To be considered you must have General Liability underwriting experience within E&S lines of business.
What You'll Do
- Collect, review, and analyze an applicant’s relevant history and records.
- Obtain additional information about an applicant as necessary to determine eligibility and pricing.
- Determine level of risk, premium costs, and deductibles.
- Negotiate and define terms of insurance policies with brokers.
- Assist with the development and enforcement of underwriting rules and guidelines with the objective of maximizing productivity and underwriting consistency.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments by analyzing insurance applications, underwriting guidelines, and supporting documents to determine the insurability and associated risks.
- Review and underwrite complex insurance policies, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate financial statements, loss history, and other relevant data to assess the financial stability and viability of clients.
- Utilize underwriting guidelines, actuarial data, and market trends to determine appropriate pricing and rating structures for insurance policies.
- Collaborate with brokers, agents, and clients to negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing of insurance policies, while maintaining positive relationships and providing exceptional customer service.
- Prepare and issue accurate policy documentation, including policy wordings, endorsements, and other related documents, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance.
- Provide risk management recommendations and advice to clients, including suggestions for loss prevention, safety measures, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks in the sector to effectively assess and adapt underwriting strategies.
- Ensure compliance with internal underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices, maintaining the highest standards of ethics and professionalism
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree; OR 3+ years of experience in insurance underwriting.
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the commercial insurance industry and regulatory environment
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the year

- Must demonstrate self-motivation, dependability, as well as strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
This is a remote position. Planned, in-office activities may be required on occasion (typically 2-4x per year).
