Job Description

Join the legal frontline and champion the defense for both the insured and the Company! As a Senior Trial Attorney, you will play a key role handling Bodily Injury (BI) and liability focused insurance defense litigation, including fast paced trials, arbitrations, and mediations. Beyond the courtroom, you’ll provide strategic counsel to claims partners and business clients while collaborating closely with legal colleagues. You’ll stay ahead of evolving laws and litigation trends that impact liability defense, ensuring strategies remain effective and business aligned. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex injury matters while making a meaningful impact in a dynamic, trial driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent insured individuals and the Company in the defense of bodily injury and third‑party liability matters, including complex and high‑exposure cases.
  • Manage all phases of litigation, including case evaluation, discovery, depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Prepare and present pleadings, motions, and pre‑trial and post‑trial submissions related to liability defense matters.
  • Conduct depositions of plaintiffs, defendants, fact witnesses, and experts; prepare witnesses for testimony.
  • Appear in court as required and coordinate litigation activity with courts, opposing counsel, clients, and internal partners throughout the Chicagoland area.
  • Evaluate liability, damages, and injury exposure; provide strategic recommendations regarding settlement, mediation, and trial posture.
  • Provide day‑to‑day legal advice and guidance to claims professionals and business stakeholders on litigation strategy and risk.
  • Collaborate with legal colleagues to manage workflows, resolve scheduling conflicts, and ensure effective case progression.
  • Monitor developments in bodily injury, auto liability, and premises liability law; advise on legal and regulatory impacts to the business.

Minimum Requirements

  • 4+ years of litigation experience with a strong emphasis on bodily injury or insurance defense matters.
  • First or second chair jury trial experience in BI cases is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience handling auto liability and bodily injury claims from inception through resolution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, LexisNexis (preferred), and electronic filing systems.
  • Strong collaboration skills, working effectively with attorneys, paralegals, claims professionals, and administrative staff.
  • Ability to manage a substantial BI caseload in a fast‑paced litigation environment.
  • Must be within a commutable distance to courts throughout downtown Chicago and the greater Chicagoland area, including surrounding counties and neighboring jurisdictions as needed.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD)
  • Active membership in good standing with the Illinois State Bar
