As our Senior Tax Manager, you will be at the forefront of building out our tax operations, playing a pivotal role in guiding our early policies, processes, and ensuring compliance. You will lead our dedicated tax team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment while delivering expert tax advice.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development:
- Oversee and mentor a high-performing tax team, promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive learning and development system that enhances both technical and soft skills, empowering professional staff to advance their careers.
- Collaborate with sales, engineers, and product departments.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure adherence to all tax regulations and compliance requirements, identifying potential risks and implementing proactive solutions.
- Oversee the tax preparation process and timely filing of federal, state, and local tax returns for clients.
- Evaluate and enhance our tax policies and procedures, leveraging technology and best practices to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
Client Engagement:
- Onboard, build, and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing exceptional service and tailored solutions to meet their unique tax needs.
- Provide expert tax advice and support for more complex clients on various tax-related matters, including tax-saving opportunities and risk management.
Industry Insight:
- Stay abreast of tax law changes ensuring our services remain competitive and compliant.
Qualifications
- Proven experience managing a team of multiple tax managers in a public accounting firm or similar environment, with a track record of mentoring and developing professional staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA, Attorney, or EA certification required.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in tax management or a similar role, with a specific focus on servicing small and medium-sized business (SMB) clients across various industries.
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, including recent legislative changes and compliance requirements pertinent to SMBs.
- Proven experience in tax planning, compliance, and audit support.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and enhance client relationships. Experience presenting complex tax concepts to SMBs and their owners.

The base pay range target for the role seniority described in this job description is $177,000 - $217,000 in San Francisco, California. Final offer amounts depend on multiple factors such as candidate experience and expertise, geographic location, total compensation, and market data. In addition to cash pay, full-time regular positions are eligible for equity, 401(k), health benefits, and other benefits; some of these benefits may be available for part-time or temporary positions.
