This role offers the opportunity to combine advanced software engineering expertise with security-focused problem solving in a fully remote environment.
The position focuses on strengthening platform security by developing tools and systems that detect, prevent, and mitigate abuse.
You will work on large-scale applications, automation initiatives, and AI-driven security capabilities that protect users and infrastructure.
As part of a global Trust and Safety team, you will collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines to deliver impactful security improvements.
The ideal candidate brings strong software development experience and a passion for expanding their security engineering skills.
This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys solving complex challenges, thinking like an attacker, and building resilient technology at scale.

Accountabilities:

The Senior Software Security Engineer will contribute to the design, development, and improvement of security systems that protect a large-scale software platform. The role combines software engineering, automation, threat analysis, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to proactively address evolving abuse patterns and security risks.

  • Maintain and enhance abuse prevention systems while developing new detection rules to identify and prevent evolving platform threats, including spam, automated abuse, and financially motivated campaigns.
  • Serve as a key contributor and maintainer for internal security platforms, building new features and supporting existing Ruby on Rails-based systems.
  • Expand AI-powered security capabilities, including improving automated decision-making processes and reducing manual operational efforts.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to implement security improvements and strengthen platform defenses.
  • Identify automation opportunities, close operational gaps, and create efficient workflows for security processes.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Support security incident response activities and contribute to proactive threat detection strategies.
  • Participate in code reviews and help establish secure software development practices across engineering teams.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a skilled software engineer with experience building scalable applications and an interest in advancing their expertise in security engineering. Success in this role requires technical depth, curiosity, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a remote-first environment.

  • Strong software development experience, particularly with Ruby and Ruby on Rails applications.
  • Experience working with distributed systems, large codebases, and cloud-based environments is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native development practices, including experience with platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or AWS.
  • Strong interest in security engineering, threat prevention, and understanding attacker behaviors.
  • Ability to approach security challenges with an automation-first mindset.
  • Experience analyzing user behavior, identifying abuse patterns, or improving platform defenses is a plus.
  • Comfortable collaborating with engineering teams and contributing to technical discussions and code reviews.
  • Experience working in remote teams where ownership, outcomes, and impact are prioritized.
  • Familiarity with AI-native development practices, including working with AI-assisted tools, agent-based systems, or AI-focused engineering workflows, is advantageous.

Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary range of $139,200 - $196,000 USD annually for eligible United States locations.
  • Equity compensation opportunities and employee stock purchase plan.
  • Flexible paid time off to support work-life balance.
  • Comprehensive benefits package designed to support health, financial security, and overall well-being.
  • Parental leave benefits.
  • Professional growth opportunities through development programs and learning resources.
  • Team member resource groups and an inclusive, collaborative workplace culture.
  • Fully remote work environment with flexibility across eligible locations.
