Job Summary: 

The Sr. Software Engineer (SSE) is a full-stack web-application engineering leadership role that codes and tests complex modules and applications for RoadRunner's business needs. An SSE takes an enterprise-wide, architectural view of our technology platform and uses the technical stack that best meets the needs of the platform. The SSE is involved in every part of the software application build process from idea generation, business review, technical design and uses the latest technologies and design patterns. 


Primary Duties Including % of time:

  • 40% - Work alongside all departments to develop high quality tools and applications
  • 30% - Maintain and Refactor existing tools and applications
  • 10% - Contribute in shaping the Technical Stack for future products
  • 10% - Mentor the next generation of engineers
  • 10% - Lead technical products working with Product in project planning, requirement analysis, design, development, quality assurance and documentation


Organizational Relationship:

  • Reports To:   Software Engineering Manager
  • Direct Reports:  None
  • Interacts with:  Software Engineers, Product Management and Product Design Teams


Skills and Experience:

  • At least 3 years of full-stack web development with at least one popular front-end and 
    back-end web framework.
  • Experience leading and mentoring Jr. Developers
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and Ruby on Rails is preferred.
  • Expertise in database design and querying, including advanced knowledge of SQL (e.g. 
    PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Designing and implementing web solutions at scale.
  • Solid computer science fundamentals are required.
  • Experience in a popular cloud platform (AWS preferred, Azure and GCP).
  • Familiar with software release cycle through continuous integration and deployment.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Be able to articulate complex problems, technical approaches, and decisions in a 
    business context.
  • Comfortable taking a leadership role on an agile team and close collaboration in a 
    remote setting.
  • Takes ownership on the solutions or components with minimal supervision. Holds self 
    and team members accountable for overall success.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, ability to act without having the whole picture using sound 
    judgment and strong decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to quickly adapt to ever changing business needs and priorities.
  • Enthusiasm for our sustainability-driven mission 


Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering or related field required
