The Role 

The Senior Project Accountant will own the financial oversight of projects across multiple entities within the QC Ecosystem. This role will report to the Director of Accounting and is responsible for building structure and discipline into project accounting processes — from contract setup through billing and closeout. 


Partnering closely with Project Managers, Finance leadership, and external stakeholders, this individual will ensure accurate cost tracking, contract compliance, timely billing, and clear financial visibility across engineering and construction projects. This is a hands-on, process-building role ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic, evolving environments. 

 

What You’ll Do 

  • Lead end-to-end project accounting from inception through closeout. 
  • Track labor, reimbursable expenses, equipment allocations, and project budgets. 
  • Manage and issue invoices based on varying contract structures (lump sum, time & materials, milestone-based, percent complete). 
  • Establish and document standardized project accounting workflows and controls. 
  • Partner with Project Managers to monitor budgets vs. actuals and analyze variances. 
  • Ensure contracts, change orders, and billing documentation are properly tracked and reconciled. 
  • Generate and distribute regular financial reports to internal stakeholders. 
  • Coordinate with external partners and project accounting counterparts as needed. 
  • Support project audits, closeouts, and internal controls. 
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and financial visibility. 

 

What You’ll Bring 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 
  • 5+ years of Project Accounting experience; Engineering or Construction environments is required.
  • Strong understanding of project-based billing and cost tracking. 
  • Experience building or improving accounting processes and workflows.
  • Familiarity with project accounting systems (Deltek required). 
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities. 
  • Ability to manage multiple entities or business units simultaneously. 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to partner cross-functionally with project teams. 
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in multi-entity or intercompany billing environments. 
  • Familiarity with labor tracking and expense reporting systems (e.g., Rippling). 
  • Experience training project managers or operational stakeholders on financial processes. 
  • Exposure to subcontractor or vendor-based construction environments.
