We aggregate, visualize, and analyze fitness, performance, and health data to help both professional and aspiring athletes make smarter decisions and reach their full potential. Our platform is already being used by the NBA, ATP, NWSLPA, USA Football and Grand Slam Track and we're just getting started.

Role Overview:

BreakAway has both web and mobile applications. Our mobile applications are used directly by athletes to access their personal performance data, track their progress, connect with other athletes and gain insights into their training and competition performance. We are building a community of athletes and empowering them to achieve across all levels of their development. We aspire to build modern, intuitive, and feature-rich mobile experiences that athletes love to use. We're looking for a Senior Mobile Engineer to own and drive the development of our athlete-facing mobile applications end-to-end — from architecture to delivery and ongoing improvement.

As Senior Mobile Engineer, you'll be a foundational member of our engineering team (currently 4 engineers) working directly with our CTO. You'll have significant influence in shaping our mobile architecture, technology choices, and engineering culture as we scale. We move fast, ship frequently, and take pride in solving meaningful problems for our athletes. We’re looking for someone who thrives in collaborative environments, takes ownership, and is energized by building ambitious products from the ground up.

What you’ll do:

• Lead the development of our mobile applications using React Native, owning the mobile architecture and implementation across both iOS and Android platforms.

• Collaborate closely with product, design, and backend engineering to ship elegant, performant, and accessible mobile interfaces.

• Establish and maintain a scalable component system and design patterns as we evolve the mobile UI/UX.

• Evaluate and implement best practices in mobile performance, accessibility and developer experience.

• Handle platform-specific implementations and optimizations for both iOS and Android deployments.

What you have:

• 4+ years of experience building modern mobile applications with React Native and TypeScript.

• Experience working with GraphQL APIs, including querying complex data structures and managing client-side caching and state.

• Experience working in early-stage or fast-moving product environments, with an eye for product detail and mobile UX best practices.

• A strong grasp of mobile performance optimization, accessibility, state management, and testing best practices.

• Experience with mobile-specific integrations including push notifications, device sensors, camera functionality, and other OS-specific APIs.

• Experience integrating third-party platforms (e.g., Auth0, analytics platforms, crash reporting tools, etc.).

• Comfortable working cross-functionally and balancing speed with scalability and maintainability.

• Ability to work in a collaborative environment and on multiple projects simultaneously within a product driven, fast-paced environment.

• Nice to have: as a small team, the more comfortable you are working full stack - integrating APIs, handling data flow, contributing to backend logic, etc.

• Bonus: experience in web development (React/Next.js), or a personal interest in sports, fitness, or athlete performance data.
