Senior Java Software Engineer

You will design and build scalable Java-based applications that integrate with sensors, data sources, and external APIs used in real-world operational settings. Working closely with end users and technical stakeholders, you will translate requirements into robust, secure, and high-performance solutions. The position involves contributing across the full software lifecycle, from architecture and development to testing and deployment. You will collaborate in a fast-paced, agile engineering environment where innovation, reliability, and security are essential. The role also includes supporting field integration activities and occasional travel to ensure systems perform in operational conditions.

Accountabilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining scalable, reusable, and high-performance software solutions that integrate with sensor systems and external data sources. You will collaborate closely with end users and stakeholders to define requirements and translate them into technical specifications while ensuring reliability and security across all systems. You will also contribute to testing, debugging, and code quality through reviews and best practices, while supporting deployment and integration activities in operational environments.

Design, develop, and maintain Java-based applications and integrations with sensors and APIs
Translate user and customer requirements into technical solutions and system designs
Conduct code reviews, testing, debugging, and performance optimization
Implement security, data protection, and software reliability standards
Collaborate with stakeholders and support field integration and testing exercises
Document solutions and contribute to team knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to enhance development efficiency

Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in Java software development within complex, data-driven, and mission-critical environments. You have strong technical expertise in software architecture, algorithms, and design patterns, combined with the ability to work directly with users to define and refine requirements. You are comfortable operating in agile, collaborative teams and can lead technical decisions while ensuring high-quality engineering standards.

Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 8+ years of software engineering experience
Strong expertise in Java or similar object-oriented programming languages
Experience working with end users to define and refine technical requirements
Strong understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms
Experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit and production-grade development practices
Ability to travel for system integration and field testing activities (up to 25%)
Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills
Active US citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain an active Top Secret clearance
