SkyGrid, an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Third-Party Service Provider (TSP), exists to open the sky for autonomous flight. Based in Austin, Texas, SkyGrid builds high-assurance third-party services to enable the safe operation and integration of autonomous aircraft. SkyGrid also acts as the operational nexus for Advanced Air Mobility, integration, and managing data, infrastructure, access, and traffic to support scaled operations.


The SkyGrid team is looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer, responsible for all electronic hardware associated with the Strata program. This includes the coordination and integration of supplier electronic components. The individual selected for this role will lead the hardware team, which is responsible for planning, documentation, design, requirements development, and verification activities necessary for providing an integrated hardware solution that is compliant with company performance requirements and regulatory guidance. This person will manage a team of hardware engineers by providing technical guidance, mentorship, performance goals, and feedback. This position reports to the Director of Engineering. 


Performance Objectives:
  • Generate planning documentation for electronic hardware certification, including: 
  • Plan for Hardware Aspects to Certification 
  • Hardware Process Assurance Plan 
  • Hardware Qualification Test Plan 
  • Hardware Design Description 
  • Hardware Requirements Standards and Checklists 
  • Hardware Design Standards and Checklists 
  • Hardware Validation and Verification Plan 
  • Generate hardware Source Control Drawings and Top-Level drawings 
  • Generate hardware Interface Control Drawings 
  • Generate component-level requirement specifications 
  • Generate Electrical Loads Analysis 
  • Support peer reviews for: 
  • System Requirement Specifications 
  • Software Engineering  
  • Cybersecurity deliverables 
  • Safety, Reliability, and Maintainability deliverables 
  • Support trade studies for design optimization 
  • Support analysis activities for requirements validation 
  • Support Integration Lab andOperations Center build activities 
  • Support customer site integration activities 


Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of electronic hardware engineers, provide mentorship, guidance, and performance evaluations. 
  • Assign tasks, set priorities, and ensure the team meets project deadlines and milestones. 
  • Foster a collaborative team environment to promote innovation and high performance. 
  • Develop electronic hardware and software requirements, as well as detailed interface specifications, based on traceability to system-level requirements and architectures. 
  • Review and approve designs, ensuring alignment with project objectives and regulatory standards. 
  • Direct and review electronic hardware requirements validation activities and execution of requirements-based testing to ensure that system designs meet operational, functional, and quality requirements. 
  • Establish best practices and processes for rigorous system design and verification. 
  • Monitor and guide supplier performance to ensure seamless system integration and compliance with requirement specifications. 
  • Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing updates and addressing emergent issues regarding electronic hardware development and integration. 


Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Engineering/STEM and 10+ years related experience, preferably in the aerospace or telecom industry. 
  • Previous leadership or team management experience in an electronic hardware development environment. 
  • Experience with electronic hardware development, test, and build. 
  • Experience with Visio or Lucid charts for creation of block diagrams and schematics. 
  • Experience with RTCA DO-160 or DO-380 for creation of environmental qualification test plans, procedures, and reports. 
  • Experience with RTCA DO-254 for design assurance of complex electronic hardware. 
  • Proven experience in requirements management, system integration, and system architecture design for Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE) components and systems. 
  • Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including Software, Systems, System Safety, Human Factors, and Quality Engineering. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and inspire a team, with experience in direct reporting structures. 
  • Skilled in fostering professional growth within a team, including mentoring junior engineers and promoting a culture of continuous improvement. 
  • Familiarity with RTCA DO-160, DO-380, and DO-254. 


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with company objectives. 
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional teams on projects and initiatives. 
  • Familiarity with tools and methodologies for project tracking, risk management, and milestone reporting.
