Aretum is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior FOIA Analyst to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in overseeing and managing the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) process, ensuring compliance with legislation and providing expert guidance to both requestors and internal stakeholders.

As a Senior FOIA Analyst, you will leverage your expertise to streamline processes and enhance the quality of our responses to FOIA requests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the processing of complex FOIA requests, ensuring adherence to statutory timelines and legal requirements.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of FOIA requests to ascertain their scope and the appropriate exemptions.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of FOIA responses, ensuring they meet all regulatory and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with various internal departments to gather and compile responsive records.
  • Advise staff and management on FOIA compliance, best practices, and policy updates.
  • Mentor and train junior staff on FOIA processes and guidelines.
  • Utilize advanced analytical methods to evaluate FOIA trends and report on performance metrics.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records of all FOIA activities and decisions.
  • Engage with requestors, addressing inquiries and providing updates on request status.

Requirements

  • Five years of prior FOIA experience
  • Ability to process FOIA requests from cradle-to-grave
  • Experience reviewing large record sets and applying redactions to responsive records in accordance with the FOIA, USDA’s FOIA regulations, and any applicable case law
  • Drafting correspondence; Managing FOIA admin files in accordance with office SOPs
  • Proficiency with USDA’s commonly used confidentiality statutes
  • Preparing FOIA appeal packages for legal sufficiency review.
  • Admission to a State Bar.
