Your opportunity

As a Senior Data & Software Engineer you will help design, build, and maintain the data pipelines and products that enable Vytalize Health to “Care for the Doctors that Take Care of Us”. Working cross functionally, your solutions will drive better patient outcomes, that help reduce total cost of care, and enable Vytalize Health to scale into the future as we expand our reach to more practices and patients. Additionally, you will be part of a small and powerful group of high performing healthcare data and software engineers, where you will support each other's professional growth through mentorship and tight collaboration.

What You Will Do

  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines and systems to meet business needs

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and ensure data quality

  • Implement scalable data storage and processing systems capable of handling large datasets

  • Develop and maintain data pipelines and systems for ingesting data from various sources and ensuring proper data formatting for analysis

  • Create and maintain data models, dictionaries, and metadata

  • Document new and existing data systems, designs, processes, and procedures

  • Implement data quality control processes to validate and clean data prior to analysis

  • Design and implement security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure data privacy

  • Optimize data systems for performance and scalability to support organizational growth

  • Stay updated with the latest tools and technologies in data engineering to meet the organization's evolving data requirements

  • Work collaboratively with other engineers in an Agile environment.

  • Trace, debug, and correct data anomalies in data pipelines and products.

  • Work on-call 3-9% of the year, one week at a time, to support production failures and emergent business needs.

  • Mentor and learn from colleagues and peers through regular participation in “Lunch & Learns”, pair/mob programming/design, and formal mentorship relationships.

What will make you successful here

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field.

  • 2+ years of experience as a data or software engineer in the VBC or healthcare space.

  • Strong healthcare experience working with, ingesting, and delivering a variety of healthcare data formats such as CCDAs, 837s, FHIR APIs, CDS Hooks, and other HL7 data types/implementation patterns.

  • Strong understanding of data lake, data warehousing, data modeling, and SQL

  • Experience with technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, and Kafka Proficiency in Python and SQL Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow

  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as AWS

  • Experience developing systems that feed into observability and telemetry platforms such as CloudWatch, Sumo Logic, or Datadog

  • Experience building and using APIs

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Clinical Decision Support Tools and Workflows

  • Clinical and Claims ingestion
