<p>As Marqeta’s <strong>Senior Data Engineer</strong>, you will join our Risk, Fraud and Disputes Engineering Team. In this cross-functional and strategic role, you will own the design and development of scalable, reliable data assets that drive real-time fraud detection, dispute operations, and regulatory reporting. This role can be performed remotely in the United States, only in one of our Premium or National locations, which you can review <a href="https://www.marqeta.com/company/salaryzones">here</a>.</p><p><strong>The Impact You’ll Have</strong></p><ul><li>You will partner with Risk, Fraud and Disputes Engineers and Product Managers to deeply understand business needs and translate them into actionable data-driven solutions </li><li>You will lead the creation of high-quality labeled datasets that power supervised machine learning, rules-based fraud detection and predictive chargeback modeling</li><li>You will collaborate closely with Machine Learning and Backend Teams to productionize data assets and enable scalable, reliable decisioning systems</li><li>You will analyze large-scale transactional, fraud and chargeback datasets to surface trends, detect anomalies and support deep-dive investigations (e.g., Chargeback win/loss rates, Fraud rates, anomalous Merchant behaviour etc.) </li><li>You will build and maintain real-time dashboards and reporting mechanisms that provide leadership, operations and product teams with visibility into critical KPIs across Risk, Fraud and Disputes</li><li>You will identify and recommend data improvements to strengthen fraud and chargeback detection capabilities and reduce false positives and false negatives </li><li>You will act as a domain expert on fraud and dispute data, supporting internal investigations and responding to customer-facing data queries with clarity and accuracy</li><li>You will partner with Finance and Operations to answer business-critical questions related to dispute performance, costs and trends </li><li>You will collaborate with Engineering to design, validate and maintain Airflow pipelines and ETL workflows that support scalable and resilient data infrastructure</li></ul><p><strong>Who You Are</strong></p><ul><li>You bring 5+ years of experience in data analytics, data science, or data engineering, ideally in risk, fraud, disputes, payments or financial services and are comfortable driving outcomes with limited direction </li><li>You are an expert in SQL, including analytical functions, performance optimization, and ETL best practices and consistently elevate data quality and efficiency </li><li>You have deep domain expertise in risk and fraud signals, dispute patterns or related behavioral datasets, and can proactively support emerging risks or anomalies </li><li>You demonstrate strong analytical intuition and can transform ambiguous business questions into structured, impactful analyses and actionable recommendations </li><li>You have significant experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau) and can translate insights into dashboards and narratives that influence decision-making </li><li>You excel at shaping technical solutions, data models, and architectures that support robust analytics and scalable ML/data applications </li><li>You are comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and can balance precision with urgency in high-stakes decision contexts </li><li>You communicate with clarity and influence, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional leaders across Product, Engineering and Operations </li><li>You are proficient with modern data tooling (e.g., Airflow, dbt) and understand how to design, maintain, and scale ELT/ETL workflows </li></ul><p><strong>Nice-To-Haves</strong></p><ul><li>Experience labelling data for Machine Learning models or partnering with Machine Learning Engineers on future creation. </li><li>Understanding of card network chargeback rules, fraud reason codes, or dispute lifecycle. </li><li>Experience with Python or R for advanced analytics or light Machine Learning tasks.</li></ul><p><strong>Compensation and Benefits</strong></p><p>Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office.
