Company Description

Mae is a digital health solution on a mission to improve the health and quality of life for Black mothers, babies, and those who love them. Mae has created a space where complete digital care meets culturally congruent on-the-ground support. We address access gaps and bolster physical and emotional well-being through continuous engagement, risk assessment, early symptom awareness, and a community-led model of support for our users.

Mae has demonstrated traction with healthcare payers as a solution to address the implicit, explicit, and structural biases that hinder equitable maternal health. In addressing whole-person care and focusing on self-advocacy, education, and community, we seek to improve the outcomes for Black mothers, while also reducing clinical costs of care at impactful scale. Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst to join our team and help build and develop the foundations for the data analytics practice at Mae. You will play a critical role in establishing and scaling our data processes and business intelligence systems, specifically those within the product and engineering organization. This position requires a deep understanding of data analysis, a strong technical background, and experience working with modern data tools. In addition to contributing directly to our data vision and roadmap you will have the opportunity to help shape the future team that will keep driving this vision forward.

We are a small engineering team so ideally this will be a contract-to-hire role while we ramp up our data analytics practices. This role will report directly to the VP of Engineering.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Define and develop the metrics we use to measure our business performance. Have strong opinions on the right way to measure performance and use them to guide the engineering team in building the right telemetry.
  • Product metrics expertise: Become the authority on product usage, sales, and customer behavior data. Deeply understand key performance indicators (KPIs), identify trends and patterns, and provide actionable insights to guide product strategy and roadmap planning.
  • Data-driven storytelling: Translate complex data into clear and compelling narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis to support other departments (time permitting)

What success looks like in this role:

  • Reduce the amount of time teams spend manually pulling data to inform decisions
  • Develop dashboards and analyses that enable the team to hit their engagement, impact, and revenue targets - you’re successful when you help your team be successful!

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis, ideally in a product-focused environment.
  • You have strong user empathy - you can deeply understand the core issues stakeholders are having and translate them into solutions that meaningfully improve their ability to operate. You understand how to analyze data in tech-enabled systems.
  • Strong analytical thinking, capable of digging deep into business problems to uncover hidden insights and areas of opportunity.
  • A self-starter mentality with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and identify opportunities with limited oversight
  • Expert-level knowledge of SQL, experience with advanced analytics tools like Python, R, or similar for data manipulation and statistical analysis.
  • Expertise in building and maintaining dashboards and reports using standard BI tools (we use Metabase, Excel)
  • Experience with A/B testing, hypothesis testing, and statistical analysis to evaluate product and feature impact.
  • Experience working with healthcare data sets (EMR and claims) a plus
