Job Description

 

Remote | Managed Care | Inpatient Coding

You could be the one who helps improve care for 28 million members. Centene is continuing to invest in strong clinical coding quality, education, and audit programs — and this role sits right at the center of that work.

This is a senior, hands-on role focused on inpatient coding audits, training, and clinical education within a managed care environment.

This position is primarily remote. Candidates must be willing to travel to New York twice per year.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, maintain, and execute complex inpatient coding audit processes and tools

  • Conduct inpatient coding audits and review medical necessity against established guidelines

  • Design and deliver clinical coding education and training programs for new and existing staff

  • Identify training gaps and recommend targeted education solutions

  • Partner with staff to resolve audit findings and improve coding accuracy

  • Present audit results, trends, and recommendations to leadership

  • Evaluate training effectiveness and continuously improve programs

  • Maintain training records and employee progress documentation

  • Support updates to policies, procedures, and workflows related to inpatient coding

  • Participate in limited travel as required

Qualifications

What You Bring

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a current, active state nursing license

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or related clinical field with equivalent experience)

  • 4+ years of experience in nursing, training, or auditing within a managed care healthcare setting

  • Inpatient coding audit experience

  • Current, valid coding certification: CPC, CIC, or CCS

  • At least 1 year of clinical experience in a hospital (inpatient) setting

  • Strong written English communication skills

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in a lead, trainer, or supervisory capacity

  • Background in developing training materials or audit tools

Compensation

$68,700 – $123,700 annually, based on experience, skills, and education
