Overview

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with great Data Platform chops to join Feed Media Group’s engineering team to work hand-in-hand with our product, music affairs and curation, and customer support teams to deliver popular music to apps, connected fitness devices, and physical spaces. We are a small, tight-knit team, so you will have the opportunity to apply yourself in many aspects of our business, going far beyond music ingestion and delivery, and analytics collection and reporting.

You’ll design and own end-to-end data solutions — from ingestion pipelines to APIs, dashboards, and internal tools — that make critical data accessible, actionable, and reliable across the organization. You’ll also help build and optimize the infrastructure behind our products and services, establish best practices, and collaborate across teams.

At FMG, we believe the best candidates are eager communicators, learn quickly, are compassionate, collaborate well with others, and have a strong desire to see their work in action. We create space for high autonomy and nurture an environment that enables a healthy work-life balance. We are looking for a candidate who is comfortable owning the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of backend systems and APIs, while also having the flexibility to collaborate closely with frontend teams, contribute to cross-functional projects as needed, and participate in an on-call rotation with other engineers to better guarantee the high-availability of our products and services.

Our Stack

Hosted on AWS, our backend consists of a GraphQL API built on Node.js services that interact with MySQL, ElasticSearch, and S3. Our data warehouse is hosted on Amazon Redshift and ingests data via PySpark ETL pipelines and Amazon Kinesis streams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain robust data infrastructure for ingesting, transforming, and modeling music content, metadata, and rights data.
  • Design, build, and support data products and internal tools that serve analytics, operations, and self-service reporting use cases: e.g. data observability dashboards, ingestion monitors, rights reporting and audit trails, content QA interfaces.
  • Design and optimize cloud-based architectures using AWS services, including DynamoDB, MySQL, Redshift, S3, Lambdas, and CloudWatch, to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Contribute to DevOps efforts, including monitoring, logging, and alerting, to ensure the reliability and resilience of our services.
  • Support rights compliance workflows through reproducible, transparent data practices.
  • Drive performance, cost efficiency, and observability across the entire stack.
  • Own work end-to-end, from ideation to production, in a small, highly collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data infrastructure, or full-stack development with a strong data focus, ideally in a music or media related industry.
  • Deep expertise with AWS services (S3, Lambda, Redshift, Glue, EC2, etc.).
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, Spark, and experience with dbt or similar modeling frameworks.
  • Deep knowledge of databases, including both relational (SQL-based) and non-relational (e.g., DynamoDB) systems.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices including Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and monitoring/logging stacks.
  • Experience building ingestion pipelines for XML, JSON, CSV, and other document formats.
  • Experience working with music rights or the media & entertainment industry handling various metadata formats, standards, and rights management.
  • A user-focused mindset — motivated to build tools and systems that make complex data usable and trustworthy.
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to work cross-functionally, with high autonomy and accountability, in a fast-paced environment with technical and non-technical teams.
  • A passion for leading initiatives while also mentoring and collaborating with fellow engineers.
