Position Summary

As a Lead Full Stack Web and AI Software Engineer at Bravo17, you will elevate the software solutions for federal agencies and the Department of Defense. This requires a deep understanding of agency missions, diverse user needs, and relevant policies, alongside standard industry responsibilities and qualifications.

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Lead Full Stack Web and AI Software Engineer with over 8 years of experience to join our expanding team. In this pivotal role, you will lead technology implementation, translate user needs into intuitive and effective software, develop and prototype web and AI solutions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional user-centered products for federal agencies.

What You'll Do

Technical Design:

  • Define and maintain technical standards and best practices, establishing guidelines for coding, architecture, and deployment to ensure consistency, quality, and maintainability across all projects.
  • Stay current with industry trends, evaluating and recommending new technologies and tools. Propose innovative solutions to enhance system performance, scalability, and security.
  • Collaborate with design, project management and stakeholders to translate UX designs & business requirements into technical designs: Bridge the gap between business needs and technical implementation, ensuring that designs effectively address user needs and organizational goals.
  • Develop comprehensive technical documentation, such as architecture diagrams, data models, and API specifications, to guide development and ensure team alignment.

Technical Delivery:

  • Design and develop intuitive, responsive user interfaces that translate UX designs into functional web applications.
  • Architect and implement secure, high-performance backend services and APIs.
  • Integrate AI/ML models, including LLM integrations, into web applications, focusing on data integration and the development of innovative user experiences.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, technical specifications, and delivery timelines.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance, especially for improving Bravo 17's capabilites in AI tooling for software engineering, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across the full stack.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, applying them to enhance our solutions.

Collaboration:

  • Effectively communicate complex design concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Lead and mentor junior user experience team members, fostering their growth and development as well as providing guidance on design best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that user needs are met throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Lead design reviews and critiques; facilitate brainstorming sessions.
  • Communicate design decisions effectively to stakeholders.

Stay Up-to-Date:

  • Stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in software engineering and AI development.
  • Continuously improve your skills and knowledge through training, workshops, and other professional development opportunities.

What You Will Bring To The Table

  • Minimum of 8 years of practical experience in software development, with a proven track record as a Software Engineer or in a similar role that includes technical leadership.
  • Strong background in software engineering projects, emphasizing transactional, interactive, or data-intensive applications, with a focus on AI and cloud computing solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of service design patterns such as REST, microservices, and monolithic architectures.
  • Proficiency in transforming Figma designs into user interfaces (e.g., React, Angular).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead technology projects, operate autonomously, or collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with business acumen.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred, but deep experience can serve as a substitute.

Who You Are

You are a builder. You are comfortable operating without excessive structure and know how to create clarity where it doesn’t exist.

You thrive in environments where standards are high, teams are small, and impact is visible. You do not need hand-holding, but you are collaborative and generous with your expertise.

You are motivated by mission-driven work and understand the responsibility that comes with designing for federal and defense environments. You can balance user-centered design with regulatory constraints, policy requirements, and security realities.

You:

  • Take ownership without waiting to be asked
  • Are comfortable leading research and design with minimal oversight
  • Communicate confidently with senior federal stakeholders
  • Know how to defend design decisions with data and rationale
  • Are adaptable when priorities shift
  • Care deeply about quality and usability, even in complex systems
  • See ambiguity as an opportunity, not a blocker
  • You want to be part of building something, not just contributing to something already built.
