Misen is looking for a curious and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to take ownership of our current financial processes. The ideal candidate is technically strong, interested in leadership, and allergic to manual processes.
As the Senior Accountant, you’ll maintain primary responsibility for GAAP compliance, oversee our financial operations, and ensure the integrity of our financial data. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining our real-time P&L via automations, month-end closing procedures, ad-hoc reconciliations, and the preparation of financial statements.
You will spend less time entering data and more time verifying its accuracy and that automations are functioning as expected. You will manage daily postings, the month-end close process, lead internal audits, and interpret financial data to help management make budgeting or investment decisions.
Our books are simple, clean, and automated anywhere we can. That said, we are growing rapidly and this is one of several soles that now demands a dedicated hire instead of part time. If we have done our job correctly, you’ll have at least 25% of your time free to participate in other financial areas that aid the business and may be of interest including, but not limited to:

Strategic investment reviews
Financial Reporting: Maintain and review daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. You will spend most of this time on variance analysis as daily AP/AR, journal entries, and bank recs are all automated.
Month-End Close: Manage the month-end and year-end close process, including the preparation and review of journal entries and account reconciliations. Due to our focus on clean inputs, this is currently only 4 hours of work beginning on day 6 and concluding on day 7. We hold board meetings and investor calls within 30 days of a quarter’s end, made possible largely due to our simple and efficient financial processes.
Audit Management: Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, preparing necessary schedules and documentation to ensure a smooth audit process.
Budgeting & Analysis: Assist in the refinement of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts; perform variance analysis to explain deviations from the plan. Budgets VS actuals, like our P&L, are driven via LiveFlow and updated automatically. We too believe you are too valuable to spend hours on manual updates.
Process Improvement: Identify and implement internal control improvements and automation opportunities within the accounting software.
Tax & Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and assist with tax filing preparations. We currently use Avalara for this.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field including oversight, analysis, and strategy.
Experience: 3–7 years of progressive accounting experience.
Technical Proficiency: Speed and comfort with setting up, troubleshooting, and directing technology solutions. Advanced expertise in Google Sheets (or Excel) and direct experience with ERP systems. Note that we do run on Google so if you are only familiar with Excel, we will make a convert out of you.
Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, high attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders. Motivated, energetic, curious self-starter who adapts to change and takes initiative.
We make all critical decisions using our core values. No these aren't something we copied, whiteboarded, or paid others to invent. We demonstrated these over 2 years of hard work before we even wrote them down.
If you truly want your authority to exceed your responsibility and embrace our core values (below) we look forward to hearing from you!
Belly Fire
We lead with expertise + passion + ambition.
We’re kitchen obsessives. We nerd out on the details and push ourselves toward innovation.
We spread the good vibes. Our attitude is contagious and gives our customers confidence in the kitchen.
Fast On Purpose
We move and communicate quickly and with intention. If something is important, we do it/say it now.
We believe in taking small bets and calculated risks.
We respect our customers’ time, and we design products that do the same.
The Forest and The Trees
We’re equally comfortable in the details and the bigger picture, and consider both when making decisions.
We’re CEOs and executors of our roles. We don’t teach or supervise until we can do the work ourselves.
We are translators. We show colleagues how our work fits with theirs. We show customers how product specs lead to a better cooking experience.
We own mistakes, sharing bad news quickly and with details, then posing solutions.
Let Me Show You
We don’t work in silos. Both our colleagues and our customers have access to all the information they need to make decisions.
We’re all in customer service. We’re the store clerk who takes you to the item you need and shows you exactly how to use it.
We show the work. We share direct information sources and we don’t dumb things down.
Kindness is Good Business
We are forgiving. We know that blame and shame don’t make the work better.
We are empathetic. We address customers’ real problems and desires.
We don’t troll, but we do have fun. It’s just cookware, after all.
