Researcher, Benchmark Reviews

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Researcher, Benchmark Reviews based in the United States.

This role focuses on producing rigorous, public-facing evaluations of AI benchmarks that shape how machine learning systems are understood and compared. You will analyze newly released benchmarks in depth, assess their methodologies, and critically evaluate what their results actually imply about AI capabilities. Your work will be published and maintained as part of an evolving body of research used by technical and non-technical audiences alike. The role sits at the intersection of research, writing, and data analysis, requiring both strong independent judgment and the ability to work with complex experimental setups. You will frequently break down dense benchmark structures, examine individual tasks, and interpret results with precision. It is an environment built for curious, critical thinkers who are comfortable challenging assumptions in fast-moving AI research. Your insights will directly contribute to improving transparency and understanding in the AI evaluation ecosystem.

Accountabilities:

Review and critically evaluate new AI benchmarks on a regular cadence, assessing methodology, structure, and what reported performance truly indicates about model capabilities.
Produce clear, publication-ready research reports that communicate findings on benchmark design, limitations, and interpretation to a broad audience.
Analyze benchmark datasets and individual tasks in detail, using coding tools and agents to assist while maintaining full analytical oversight and judgment.
Maintain and update published reports as benchmarks evolve and as new models shift performance baselines.
Contribute ideas for improved or missing benchmarks, identifying gaps in current evaluation approaches and proposing new directions.
Engage deeply with technical data, breaking down complex evaluation frameworks into understandable components for analysis and communication.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical thinking with exceptional writing ability and a deep understanding of AI evaluation systems.

Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, structured, publication-quality research without heavy editing.
Experience or strong familiarity with AI/ML benchmarks, including their methodologies, strengths, and limitations.
Critical thinking skills to evaluate research design, identify methodological flaws, and assess the validity of benchmark conclusions.
Comfort working with dense datasets and technical materials, including decomposing complex evaluation systems into actionable insights.
Ability to use coding tools or agents to assist with analysis while independently driving interpretation and judgment.
Interest in AI research, evaluation methodologies, and the broader implications of benchmarking on model development.
Prior experience writing about AI or conducting evaluation-related work is a strong plus but not required.
