We are seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist to join our team. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in data analysis and statistical modeling with a focus on epidemiological research to support impactful public health and biomedical research projects.

Position Summary:

The Data Scientist will assist in creating, maintaining, and analyzing research databases that will directly support the overall function and mission of the National Institute on Aging (NIA). You will combine genomic and computational biology knowledge with statistical programming, data warehousing, and quantitative problem-solving with data analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design research studies, analyze findings, and prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Conduct epidemiological and omic studies and data analysis to address critical public health challenges.
  • Develop and implement statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and other advanced analytics methods.
  • Manage and analyze large, complex datasets, including health records, survey data, and administrative databases.
  • Interpret and present results to stakeholders, including government agencies, partners, and non-technical audiences.
  • Support proposal development and contribute to publications, presentations, and white papers.
  • Ensure data integrity, compliance with privacy regulations, and adherence to government guidelines.
  • Analyze large-scale genomic datasets and develop and implement bioinformatics tools and pipelines.
  • Enable code reuse across Linux and Windows environments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on research projects and with external partners and institutions while contributing to the strategic planning of research projects.
  • Interpret and communicate complex scientific data.
  • Stay current with advancements in genomics and related fields.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Biomedical Sciences, Genomics, Bioinformatics, or relevant discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant, applicable professional experience, including but not limited to data management, data analysis, statistical modeling, etc.
  • Utilize tools & data formats related to gene expression, enrichment analysis, genetic, genomic, or epigenetic data, such as encountered when analyzing high-throughput transcriptomic, whole exome, whole genome, whole methylome, GWAS, or targeted resequencing data, and ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
  • Experience with data discovery to extract meaningful data from an unknown dataset, data cleansing, and other data preparation tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise in supporting scientific researchers and a willingness to stay current with advancements in analytic methods.
  • Experienced software developer with multiple programming languages, including but not limited to R, Python, SAS, and MATLAB, as well as experience with genomic data analysis tools and software.
  • Ability to interpret and present complex scientific data and express complex concepts in a clear, easy-to-understand manner with various levels of users, in face-to-face interactions, and in writing.
  • Very strong interpersonal and customer service skills, result-oriented, and team-building skills are essential, as well as a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of ethical and regulatory standards in genomics research.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience supporting governmental research.
  • Experience working on federal government research projects or with agencies such as CDC, NIH, or HHS.
  • Familiarity with REDCap, Tableau, R Shiny, Flask, Dash, React, or Power BI tools for data visualization and management.
  • Knowledge of federal data privacy and security regulations, including HIPAA and FISMA.
  • Experience with reproducible research tools like Markdown and Jupyter, as well as version control tools like git.

 

Basic Compensation: $125,00.00 -$135,000.00 yearly salary

The salary offered within this range will be based on the selected candidates’ skills, experience, education, market data, and internal parity. DLH may offer other rewards that may include performance incentives and program-specific awards.  An applicant’s salary history will not be used to determine compensation.
