CPA Firm is seeking Tax Director will lead a high-performing tax team, ensuring the effective implementation of tax strategies for high-net-worth individuals and businesses.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Hire, train, lead, coach, and hold the tax team accountable.
    • Mentor junior staff to ensure they grow their skills and career.
    • Provide ongoing training and development for new and existing employees.
    • Offer real-time feedback and conduct weekly 1:1s with team members.
    • Foster a high-performance culture, motivating the team to stay productive and
      positive, especially during peak seasons.
    • Assign projects, review work, and ensure deadlines are met with proactive
      communication.
    • Conduct performance reviews and address conflicts as needed.
    • Lead client kick-off meetings with the Sales Team to establish strong
      relationships.
    • Ensure timely, proactive communication with clients throughout the tax cycle.

 

  • Tax Compliance & Advisory:
    • Oversee the preparation and review of business and individual income tax returns.
    • Lead research on complex tax strategies and issues outside of routine tax preparation.
    • Assist with responses to tax notices, liaising with taxing agencies as necessary.
    • Manage sales tax filings and reporting to the state.

 

  • Client Engagement & Consulting:
    • Run or attend quarterly client meetings to review financial performance, provide feedback, and discuss tax projections.
    • Review client business and personal income for quarterly estimated tax
      calculations and provide advisory services as needed.

 

  • Financial Reporting & Review:
    • Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Assist with the month-end preparation of board financial statements and reconciliation of workpapers.

 

  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Organize and maintain the tax database, ensuring all entries are recorded accurately in accounting & project management software platforms.
    • Implement tax reduction strategies and provide accounting support to the team as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 8 years of Tax experience required with proven work experience as a Tax Senior/Tax Associate
  • 3 years of Accounting Experience Required
  • 2+ years leading a team of remote employees
  • CPA firm experience a must.
  • Accounting and payroll knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and tax laws.
  • Must be a licensed EA, or CPA
  • Proficient in Accounting Software (such as QBO, QBD) and Ultra Tax
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team in a professional setting.
  • Strong background in compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
  • Experience with Project Management Software such as Asana, Notion, Monday,
    ClickUp, a plus
