New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont and Bermuda. Responsible for one of the largest of the 55 Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) that make up the nation’s donation system, NEDS works with over 200 hospitals and serves nearly 15 million people in our region, screening nearly 55,000 potential donor referrals annually. With approximately $150M in operating revenues, NEDS employs 387 clinical and non-clinical staff members throughout New England and across the country.

Job Description

The Referral Resource Coordinator (RRC) manages referral and case activity to ensure follow-up and/or response on site to hospitals occur in a manner that meets NEDS’ mission and best serves donor families. This position participates in a remote work capacity and schedule that provides oversight of new and open referrals and dispatching of staff 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.

Please note: Only candidates with previous OPO experience in a clinical role such as a Donation Coordinator, Critical Responder or Referral Resource Coordinator will be strongly considered.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work remote for a mix of 16 hour and 8 hour shifts, RRCs currently work 2 shifts of 16 hours days and 1 shift of 8 hour overnight a week.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide good customer service when collaborating with both NEDS team members and key hospital partners in a Critical Care/ICU setting.
  • Basic understanding of pathophysiology and critical-care level hemodynamics.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret electronic medical records of patients receiving ICU-level care to assess donor suitability and type of response necessary (i.e. lab values, diagnoses, medical history)
  • Ability to respond to changing needs; prioritize effectively, and to communicate effectively and constructively during times of stress.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task cases.
  • Adherence to standards of practice.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and the ability to learn NEDS’ internal systems (e.g. True North) and hospital EMRs

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred;  three to five years’ experience in a related field
  • Critical care (hospital or pre-hospital) or OPO experience required.
  • Previous OPO experience as a Donation Coordinator or in a position with organ donor referral management strongly preferred. 

This is a fully remote position. Candidates must be available to be on site in Waltham, MA for a week for New Hire Orientation.
