Position Summary:

Revolution Space is seeking a high-ownership, self-directed Quality Engineer to support flight hardware, suppliers, and internal assembly operations. This role combines hands-on product quality, supplier quality, and mission assurance discipline in a rapidly growing aerospace organization.

This position is ideal for a go-getter who does not wait to be told what is broken, but actively looks for risks, gaps, and failure modes before they become escapes. You will be trusted to operate with minimal oversight, identify what must be fixed, and drive it to closure.

The Quality Engineer will help shape and mature the company鈥檚 Quality Management System, which is currently being built to align with AS9100 and aerospace best practices in support of future FAR and institutional customers.

This position is remote with routine supplier and partner travel.

Responsibilities:

Product & Process Quality

Proactively identify quality, reliability, and compliance risks across parts, materials, assemblies, and processes

Lead non-conformance, failure, and escape investigations using structured Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) methods.

Drive Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to verified closure

Support receiving inspection, in-process inspection, and final acceptance of flight hardware

Ensure travelers, work instructions, inspection plans, and records are accurate, complete, and followed

Supplier Quality

Perform supplier audits, risk assessments, and surveillance

Review and approve certificates of conformity, material certs, test data, and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)-type submittals

Drive supplier corrective actions and prevent recurrence

Quality Management System Development

Help build, maintain, and improve a QMS aligned to AS9100 and ISO 9001

Support internal audits, customer audits, and future certification readiness

Write, improve, and enforce procedures, work instructions, and quality records

Data & Risk Management

Track and analyze non-conformances, escapes, scrap, rework

Identify systemic risks and trends before they become flight or schedule impacts

Cross-Functional Integration

Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Mission Assurance

Support configuration control, deviations, waivers, and risk acceptance

Required Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Materials, or similar)

Experience

7+ years in Quality Engineering in aerospace, defense, aviation, or other high-reliability regulated industries

5+ years working within ISO 9001 or AS9100-aligned quality systems

Experience supporting flight hardware, space hardware, or safety-critical products

Technical Knowledge

       RCCA methodologies (8D, Five-Why, Fishbone)

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)

Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Measurement System Analysis (MSA)

Engineering drawings, tolerancing, material specs, and build documentation

The ability to use integrated business software to track parts, manage schedules, and ensure data integrity from the initial quote through final shipping.  This includes Bill of Materials, work orders, and inventory traceability.

Skills & Personal Attributes

Self-starter who identifies problems and fixes them without being asked

Comfortable operating in a startup-pace aerospace environment

       Strong written and verbal communicator

Able to challenge bad data, weak processes, and poor discipline

Works effectively with technicians, engineers, suppliers, and customers

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Aerospace Standards (AS9145/AS9102) or IATF 16949 is a plus but not required.

Proven experience as a Risk Lead or Subject Matter Expert in identifying, mitigating, and managing technical and operational risks across the product lifecycle
