Quality Assurance Engineer I | Acorns

Acorns is seeking a QA Engineer who has a passion for helping create reliable, bug-free user experiences and a background in writing functional, integration, system, and end-to-end automated tests. As a QA Engineer, your typical week would involve collaborating with the product and other various engineering teams to plan the build-out test suites for new features.

You will participate in product feature and architecture design reviews to identify concerns and risks early in the product life cycle. You will build and maintain tools and frameworks to support ongoing automated testing efforts on all supported mobile platforms and browser configurations. You will be developing and maintaining test plans, test cases, and automated tests to ensure sufficient test coverage of our mobile, web, and backend applications.

You are not expected to have experience with all technologies listed in this posting. We're looking for an experienced QA Engineer who loves learning new technologies on the job, thinks creatively to solve complex problems, and enjoys working collaboratively.

Acorns is a remote-first organization, offering the flexibility to work remotely while providing optional access to office space in Irvine, CA.

What you will do at Acorns:

  • Learn the QA process and tools that the QA team uses

  • Design, build, and maintain automated test suites across mobile, web, and backend applications to ensure high-quality, bug-free user experiences.

  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to plan test coverage for new features and identify potential risks early through design and architecture reviews.

  • Develop tools and testing frameworks that support scalable, reliable automated testing across supported devices, platforms, and browsers.

  • Assist devs and QA with testing new features

  • Take ownership of testing new features

  • Develop and maintain automated tests for new and existing features

  • Recommend and implement improvements to QA process and tools

What you will bring to Acorns:

  • 2+ years of experience as a QA/QE Engineer, SDET or similar role preferred 

  • Working knowledge of test methodologies, processes, and tools

  • Agile Testing Experience in an agile development environment (e.g. SCRUM/XP/Kanban)

  • Experience programming in: Ruby, Java, Kotlin, JavaScript, TypeScript C#

  • Experience with Espresso, XCUI, Selenium/Appium, Cypress or similar mobile automation frameworks

  • Experience testing RESTful APIs

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines

  • Experience with Reports

  • Investment portfolio experience

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, multi-tasking, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills

  • Must be self-directed, detail-oriented, and have excellent written & verbal communication skills

  • Experience with Unix (Linux preferred)

  • Comfortable communicating cross-functionally and across management levels in formal and informal settings

  • Shows creativity and initiative to improve product test coverage and effectiveness

Compensation Information:

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $121,400 and $142,800/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, equity grants, and discretionary cash bonus awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
