Â
The Senior Structural Engineer is a hands‑on senior individual contributor responsible for structural engineering ownership of product structures supporting CDU, switchgear, and related data center infrastructure equipment, including frames, enclosures, skids, and anchorage systems. This role ensures that structures meet all load, seismic, transport, installation, and operational requirements across global deployment environments. The position provides authoritative structural analysis, design validation, and code compliance, while ensuring structural intent is accurately captured in CAD models and released documentation.Â
Â
The role requires a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with deep experience in structural systems supporting heavy electrical and mechanical equipment. Close collaboration with mechanical, manufacturing, quality and PLM teams is essential to mitigate structural risk, support regulatory and customer approval processes, and prevent late-stage redesigns or field driven corrective actions.Â
Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
Structural Engineering Ownership & AnalysisÂ
Own structural design and analysis for data center centric power and cooling systems, including frames, enclosures, skids and mounting structures.Â
Proficient in structural analysis software such as RISA 3D, SAP2000, RAM Structural, IdeaStatica, Enercalc, Hilti Profis, ETABS or similar.Â
Perform and review structural calculations for static, dynamic, seismic, transport, wind, snow, installation, and live load cases.Â
Ensure structural designs meet applicable codes, standards and jurisdictional requirements for global deployment.Â
Required familiarity with ASCE 7, AISC 360 and ACI 318.Â
Exercise professional engineering judgment as the responsible structural authority.Â
Seismic Qualification & Load ManagementÂ
Lead seismic qualification efforts, including floor response spectra evaluation and anchorage requirements.Â
Evaluate floor loading limits, elevated installations and site‑specific structural constraints.Â
Ensure designs safely support heavy components such as large bus structures and transformers under all operating and fault conditions.Â
Assess interactions with forklifts, cranes, and rigging operations during manufacturing, transport, and installation.Â
Structural CAD & Design IntentÂ
Ensure structural intent is accurately reflected in CAD models, drawings, and released documentation.Â
Review and guide structural CAD layouts, weldments, fastener strategies and anchoring details.Â
Partner with mechanical and CAD teams to maintain alignment between analytical assumptions and physical design implementation.Â
Verify manufacturing drawings clearly communicate load paths, interfaces and installation requirements.Â
Regulatory & Customer Approval SupportÂ
Act as the technical authority for regulatory, AHJ and customer structural signoff requirements.Â
Prepare, review, and certify structural documentation required for compliance and customer acceptance.Â
Respond to structural inquiries, findings and deviations from customers, inspectors and third‑party reviewers.Â
Cross Functional Risk MitigationÂ
Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to identify and mitigate structural risks early.Â
Support prototype builds, qualification testing, and production ramp up through structural guidance and issue resolution.Â
Proactively identify structural risks that could lead to late-stage redesigns, production delays, or field retrofits.Â
Â
Required QualificationsÂ
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited university.Â
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.Â
10+ years of experience in structural engineering for industrial or infrastructure class equipment with 3+ years in data center design.Â
Demonstrated experience performing and certifying structural analyses for heavy equipment assemblies.Â
Ability to independently own structural decisions and provide stamped deliverables if required.Â
Â
Preferred ExperienceÂ
Masters’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited university.Â
Structural engineering experience supporting CDU, switchgear or mission critical power infrastructure.Â
Deep understanding of ASCE 7 Chapter 13: Seismic Design Requirements For Nonstructural Components.Â
Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks), PLM (Windchill), and BlueBeam.Â
Active Structural Engineer (SE) license in the United States.Â
Hands on experience with seismic qualification, anchorage design and elevated or constrained installations.Â
Experience designing structures supporting large bus bar systems, heavy transformers, or other high mass electrical components.Â
Familiarity with manufacturing and installation interactions, including crane, forklift, and rigging requirements.Â
Experience supporting customer or regulatory structural acceptance and signoff processes.Â
Â
Core CompetenciesÂ
Senior level structural engineering judgment and accountabilityÂ
Strong expertise in seismic, load and transport analysisÂ
Clear translation of structural intent into CAD and documentationÂ
Risk based thinking with focus on early mitigationÂ
Effective cross functional collaboration without managerial authorityÂ
High ownership, rigor, and attention to detail in regulated environmentsÂ
