This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Software Engineer, Frontend - Design Systems based in United States.

This remote leadership opportunity is designed for a highly experienced frontend engineer who is passionate about shaping the future of design systems at scale. You will drive the technical vision for a modern component library that powers customer-facing applications, enabling engineering teams to build consistent, accessible, and high-performing user experiences. Working closely with product, UX, and engineering leaders, you will define frontend architecture, create scalable development tools, and accelerate platform-wide adoption through automation and innovation. This role combines hands-on software development with strategic technical leadership, offering the opportunity to influence engineering practices across an entire organization while mentoring senior technical talent and advancing AI-enabled software development.


Accountabilities
  • Lead the technical direction and evolution of a modern frontend design system and component library used across large-scale customer applications.
  • Design, develop, and maintain reusable UI components that promote consistency, performance, accessibility, and exceptional user experiences.
  • Define frontend architecture, engineering standards, and component APIs that enable scalable adoption across multiple product teams.
  • Build internal tooling, automation frameworks, migration utilities, and developer workflows to simplify large-scale design system implementation.
  • Develop solutions that leverage AI-powered coding tools and automation to improve engineering productivity and software quality.
  • Establish accessibility standards, reusable interaction patterns, and design capabilities that support diverse user needs.
  • Partner with Product Managers, UX designers, and engineering leadership to align technical direction with long-term product strategy.
  • Lead complex engineering initiatives from concept through production deployment while maintaining a strong hands-on coding presence.
  • Mentor senior and staff engineers, promote frontend engineering excellence, and influence technical strategy across the broader engineering organization.

Requirements

  • 14+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience leading complex technical initiatives with organization-wide impact.
  • Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, JavaScript, frontend architecture, and modern web application development.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining production-scale design systems and reusable component libraries.
  • Strong understanding of modern frontend tooling, UI frameworks, styling solutions, and scalable development infrastructure.
  • Experience developing internal engineering tools, automation frameworks, migration utilities, or code transformation solutions.
  • Hands-on software development mindset with demonstrated expertise in coding, code reviews, debugging, and technical problem-solving.
  • Strong knowledge of accessibility standards, responsive design principles, and user interface best practices.
  • Experience working with AI-assisted software development tools or coding agents and a strong interest in applying AI to frontend engineering workflows.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills with the ability to influence engineering strategy across cross-functional teams.
  • Proven experience mentoring senior engineers and fostering engineering excellence within large technical organizations.
