About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer to lead the design and development of next-generation AI-driven solutions for insurance carrier integration. This role will play a critical part in shaping our core platform capabilities—leveraging artificial intelligence to accelerate carrier connectivity, streamline quoting and underwriting workflows, and drive automation across the commercial insurance distribution ecosystem.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in enterprise system integrations, AI/ML technologies, and scalable SaaS architectures, combined with hands-on leadership experience guiding engineering teams through complex technical initiatives.

What you'll do

Architect & Lead Integration Work

  • Design and oversee scalable, secure, and reliable carrier API integrations (REST, SOAP, EDI, ACORD, proprietary carrier systems).
  • Define patterns, frameworks, and reusable services to accelerate onboarding of new carriers and lines of business.

AI & Automation Strategy

  • Develop AI/ML pipelines to extract, normalize, and map submission and policy data (ACORD forms, loss runs, SOVs, proposals).
  • Collaborate with Data Science/AI teams to embed LLMs and vector search into underwriting workflows.
  • Evaluate emerging AI models and frameworks to ensure practical, cost-efficient adoption.

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

  • Serve as a hands-on technical leader, writing high-quality code and setting engineering best practices.
  • Mentor senior engineers on AI, system integration, and distributed architectures.
  • Partner with Product, Carrier Relations, and Operations to align integration roadmaps with business goals.

Platform & Infrastructure Ownership

  • Drive performance, scalability, and reliability improvements across the integration and AI pipelines.
  • Collaborate with DevOps on AWS-based infrastructure (EC2, Lambda, S3, Bedrock, Step Functions, API Gateway).
  • Ensure compliance with data security, SOC2, and industry standards.

Qualifications

Experience: 10+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years in a senior/principal role.

Domain Knowledge: Strong background in insurance carrier integrations, ACORD standards, or related InsurTech systems.

Technical Expertise:

·       Proficiency in Node.js/TypeScript (Python experience a plus).

·       Strong knowledge of REST/SOAP APIs, event-driven systems, and microservices.

·       Familiarity with AI/ML pipelines, LLMs, and vector databases (e.g., MongoDB Atlas Vector Search, Pinecone, Redis).

·       Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).

Leadership: Proven ability to set technical direction, mentor senior engineers, and influence cross-functional teams.

Mindset: Pragmatic, collaborative, and passionate about using technology to transform the insurance industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with commercial insurance quoting/underwriting platforms.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in insurance data processing.
  • Hands-on experience with Quasar/Vue front-end frameworks.

Why Mission

  • Opportunity to shape the future of AI in commercial insurance distribution.
  • High-impact role with visibility across engineering, product, and executive leadership.
  • Collaborative, innovative culture where technical leaders drive meaningful business outcomes

Working Conditions

  • Requires a quiet work environment with regular sitting at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers.
  • Frequent talking or hearing.
  • Vision requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, focus and depth perception.
