People Operations Partner

Status: Full-Time Exempt | Direct Hire Pay: $100,000 – $120,000 annually

Location: 100% Remote (anywhere in the US)

We're a fast-growing, fully remote organization on a mission to make a real difference — and we know our people make that possible. As we scale, we're adding a high-ownership, high-impact role to our team. We're seeking a People Operations Partner who thrives on building systems and processes from the ground up and genuinely cares about the employee experience. You'll lead our PEO exit, build our HR infrastructure, and serve as a trusted, knowledgeable partner to managers and employees across the business. You'll report to the SVP, People, and work closely with the People team, Finance, Legal, and department leads.

About Expressable

Expressable is a virtual speech therapy practice on a mission to transform care delivery and expand access to high-quality services, serving thousands of clients since our inception in late 2019. We are passionate advocates of parent-focused intervention. Our e-learning platform contains thousands of home-based learning modules authored by our clinical team, helping SLPs empower caregivers to integrate speech therapy techniques into their child’s daily life and improve outcomes. Our mission is to set a new standard in speech therapy by making every caregiver a champion of their loved one’s success. We envision a world where everyone can fulfill their communication potential.

What You Would Be Doing

PEO Exit & HR Infrastructure

  • Lead the end-to-end transition off our current PEO, including payroll integration and benefits enrollment

  • Implement and administer our core HR tech stack in partnership with our HRIS Lead: HRIS, benefits administration platform, and supporting tools

  • Build and own our employee handbook, HR policy library, and compliance documentation, keeping them current as we scale

  • Design and document repeatable people ops processes across the employee lifecycle

Leave of Absence & ADA Administration

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all leave requests — FMLA, state-specific programs, military leave, and personal leave

  • Manage the full leave lifecycle: intake, eligibility determination, documentation, payroll coordination, and return-to-work

  • Administer the ADA interactive process, coordinating reasonable accommodation requests and maintaining compliant documentation

  • Monitor federal and multi-state leave and accommodation regulations; proactively flag and address compliance gaps

Benefits & Total Rewards Operations

  • Administer benefits programs day-to-day, including open enrollment, qualifying life events, and vendor management

  • Partner with brokers and carriers to ensure accurate, timely administration and a smooth employee experience

  • Support compensation processes including offer benchmarking, annual review cycles, and comp data integrity in the HRIS

  • Serve as the go-to resource for employee questions on benefits, pay, and total rewards

People Data & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready employee records and ensure compliance with federal and multi-state recordkeeping requirements

  • Own people reporting and HR metrics — headcount, attrition, leave utilization, time-to-fill — and deliver regular insights to leadership

  • Partner with the Payroll Manager to administer I-9 compliance, EEO-1 reporting, and other regulatory filings

  • Support internal audits and partner with Legal on employment compliance matters as needed

Business Partnership & Employee Experience

  • Build trusted relationships with managers and team leads, providing proactive guidance on people processes, policies, and programs

  • Identify friction in the employee experience and drive operational improvements

  • Champion consistency and equity in how people programs are delivered across the organization

What You Bring

  • 5+ years in a people operations role, ideally at a growth-stage or mid-size company

  • Hands-on experience administering FMLA, state leaves, and ADA accommodations end-to-end

  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading a PEO exit, HRIS implementation, or HR infrastructure build

  • Strong working knowledge of federal employment law (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, Title VII) and multi-state compliance requirements

  • Comfort with HR systems and an eye for process — you think about how to make things repeatable and scalable, not just solve for today

  • High attention to detail in data, documentation, and compliance work — you catch things others miss

  • Clear, approachable communicator who can translate policy and process into plain language for employees and managers

  • High degree of discretion and sound judgment with sensitive employee information

  • Experience with an HRIS platform (e.g., Rippling, Gusto, BambooHR, Workday) and comfort evaluating new tools

Nice to Have

  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification

  • Experience at a company that has recently exited a PEO

  • Familiarity with state paid family leave programs or other relevant state leave laws

  • Experience building or overhauling an employee handbook and HR policy suite from scratch

  • Exposure to benefits benchmarking or broker RFP processes

Core Competencies

In addition to the competencies associated with our core values, the People Operations Partner should bring the following:

  • Analytical — Ability to interpret employment regulations, identify compliance gaps, and translate complex policy into operational action

  • Communication — Clear, approachable written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex topics for diverse audiences

  • Collaboration — Skilled at working cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, and business leaders in a fully remote environment

  • Adaptability — Comfortable navigating evolving regulations, shifting priorities, and building in ambiguity

Why Join Us?

  • Exceptional paid time off policies that encourage and support life balance, including a winter break

  • 401k matching to ensure our staff have what they need to enjoy their retirement

  • Health insurance options that ensure well-being for the whole person and their family

  • Company paid life, short-term disability, and long-term disability coverage

  • A remote work environment that strives for connectivity through professional collaboration and personal connection
