The Role 

The Payroll Manager oversees all aspects of payroll operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across all entities. This role requires strong knowledge of payroll taxes, labor laws, deductions, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is a hands-on payroll professional who can manage payroll end to end, troubleshoot issues, provide guidance on payroll matters, and bring strong experience using Rippling payroll software. 

 

What You’ll Do 

  • Process payroll for all employees on a regular schedule, ensuring accuracy and compliance. 
  • Verify hours worked, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and other compensation elements. 
  • Calculate and process payroll deductions, including benefits, garnishments, and tax withholdings. 
  • Serve as the internal owner for payroll tax notices and issues, working directly with Rippling and/or state agencies to resolve discrepancies. 
  • Manage multi-state payroll compliance, including state registrations and maintaining accurate tax setups. 
  • Stay current on federal, state, and local labor laws, wage and hour regulations, and payroll tax requirements. 
  • Ensure payroll tax filings and payments are completed accurately and on time (prepared and filed by Rippling with internal oversight). 
  • Respond to employee inquiries related to pay, deductions, and payroll issues. 
  • Collaborate with HR and Accounting to ensure accurate records and seamless information flow. 
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports for management as needed. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll data and sensitive employee information. 
  • Support audits and year-end activities, including W-2 preparation. 
  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner. 

 

What You Bring 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. 
  • 5+ years of payroll processing experience in a multi-state environment. 
  • Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, wage and hour laws, and payroll deductions. 
  • Hands-on experience with Rippling payroll software or a similar platform. 
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and confidentiality practices. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer systems. 
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and functions. 

 

Preferred Skills 

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC). 
  • Experience supporting payroll-related benefits administration. 
  • Ability to adapt to evolving laws, regulations, and technology.
