This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of Whirlwind Steel Buildings, Inc. We are currently looking for a Metal Building Design Engineer in Texas (USA).

This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the structural design and engineering of pre-engineered metal buildings. The Metal Building Design Engineer will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to create innovative, cost-effective, and code-compliant building solutions. With a focus on structural integrity, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction, this position provides the chance to influence the lifecycle of projects from concept through construction. The ideal candidate thrives in a technically challenging environment, enjoys problem-solving, and contributes to continuous improvement and innovation in metal building design. Flexibility in work location and occasional travel adds variety and exposure to real-world applications.

Accountabilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design of metal building frames, secondary framing, and connections using industry-standard software.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and standards (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, AISI, MBMA) as well as project-specific requirements.
  • Optimize designs for cost-effectiveness, manufacturability, and efficiency while maintaining structural integrity.
  • Collaborate closely with drafting, project management, manufacturing, and sales teams to ensure accurate and feasible designs.
  • Support field service teams with structural clarifications and issue resolution during construction.
  • Conduct peer reviews, design checks, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering standards and processes.
  • Stay current with advancements in metal building materials, design software, and construction methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in structural engineering, preferably in pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB).
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software and metal building design tools (e.g., MBS, AutoCAD, SkyCiv).
  • Strong understanding of steel design principles, load paths, and connection detailing.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards.
  • Preferred: familiarity with metal building manufacturing processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for effective cross-functional teamwork.
